JAMSHEDPUR: On the occasion of World AIDS Day, celebrated globally on 1st December every year, Tata Steel reaffirmed the theme ‘Getting to Zero’ by organizing a host of activities including float, rally, street play and Trucker’s Utsav. The activities were organized by CSS division and Tata Main Hospital.
On this occasion, Mrs. Surekha Nerurkar, President – AIWC, flagged off a float and rally from L Town Gate, Sakchi to Aam Bagan Maidan to mobilize the citizens. Nukkad Nataks were held at the halt points and slogans were displayed to educate the public on HIV/AIDS. The Nodal Centre – AIDS of Tata Steel and TSFIF, organized the rally. Dr P.C. Mahapatra, Head FI & Health welcomed each one present at the gathering. Dr H. K. Gardin, Head Nodal Centre – AIDS outlined the significance of the day.
Mrs Surekha Nerurkar, President – AIWC spoke about the need for public resolve to bring down new infection, become responsible in taking steps for safer behavior practices to protect themselves and their families from the wide spread of the infection. AVM (Retd) Dr T.P. Madhusudanan, GM (MS) and Lt. Gen. (Retd) Dr. Ramdas, Chief TMH, were acknowledged for their constant effort to ensure treatment without stigma and discrimination in TMH.
On the occasion, five people from the Jharkhand’s Positive People’s Network were recognized for their exemplary work done by bringing relief to Positive People and referring them to the various services available for treatment, care and support once they are infected.
Mr. Akhilesh Kumar Jha, SSP – East Singhbhum was the Chief Guest at the concluding point of the Rally at Aam Bagan Maidan. He said that two decades of AIDS awareness has created awareness among people to take control of their lives and understand the needs to adopt safe practices.
The Truckers Intervention Project of the Tata Steel Rural Development Society organized ‘Truckers Utsav’ – a day long infotainment program of games, health check-up and display stalls by partner NGOs. Truckers Utsav was inaugurated by Mr. Subodh Kumar, SDO and Mr. P. N. Singh, President, Tata Workers’ Union.
Nukkad Nataks were held at Long distance Bus Stand near Mango bridge and community centres. In Yashpur (Sareikela Khraswan), Mrs. Sanjukta Nayak conducted slogan competition and rally amongst the youth. Dr. Manju Khess organized a rally by students and the community in Tirldih.
Staff of CSS Division, Tata Main Hospital, Security Department Tata Steel Ltd, NGO representatives, Jamshedpur Blood Bank, AIWC members, students from Educational Institutions, Members of the Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Midtown, The Lions Club, the Association of Sacred Heart Alumni, Association of British Scholars in India (Jamshedpur Chapter), Representatives of the Positive People’s Network, etc. participated in the program.
