Inaugurated by Her Excellency Smt Draupadi Murmu, Hon’ble Governor of Jharkhand, 9 states participating in the three-day event

WEST BOKARO: Tata Steel’s West Bokaro Division is hosting the “2nd Divyang Mini National Day & Night Cricket Tournament”. This is being jointly organised by Tata Steel and Jharkhand Board of Divyang Cricket Association (JBDCA) at the Sports Complex, West Bokaro in the Ramgarh district of Jharkhand. The partnership is a reflection of the Company’s aim to promote sports as means of empowering the youth, especially the sporting genius with disabilities.
The three-day mega event from April 25-27, 2017, was inaugurated today by Her Excellency Smt Draupadi Murmu, Hon’ble Governor of Jharkhand in the presence of Rajeswari B, Deputy Commissioner, Ramgarh; Priyadarshi Alok, Superintendent of Police, Ramgarh; Sanjay Kumar Singh, General Manager, West Bokaro Division, Tata Steel; Mohan Mahto, President, Rashtriya Colliery Mazdoor Sangh and Vijay Mewar, Chief Patron, JBDCA.
A total of 144 players having 20 to 80 per cent physical disability as well as amputees of upper and lower limbs from 9 states namely Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Delhi, Bihar, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana will showcase their talents at the event. The matches will be played with international standard hard deuce balls.
Smt Murmu appreciated the support extended by Tata Steel for the event and lauded the efforts of “Jharkhand Board of Divyang Cricket Association” in identifying the talent of persons with disabilities and providing them a platform like this to showcase their talent.
Sanjay Singh shared his insight on Tata Steel and sports, adding: “Tata Steel embraces diversity at the workplace and encourages the society to appreciate the talent that lies in each one of us. To us, sports is a way of life, which reflects in all our sporting initiatives, be it the world-class academies or the names across sporting disciplines that make India proud. We are privileged to partner with this initiative where each participant is a winner in his own way. We urge all present, especially the youth, to imbibe the can-do spirit which is the force that drives our participants to excel”.
It is worth mentioning here that selectors from Hyderabad will also attend the sporting event to select players for the upcoming IPL-format tournament for Divyangs named ‘Indian Divyang Premier League’ to be held in Andhra Pradesh this year.
