NEW DELHI : Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power Company, has announced that It has won three prestigious awards at the Tata Affirmative Action Programme Annual Convention 2015.

The Tata Affirmative Action Programme (TAAP) is a Tata Group initiative that was initiated in 2007 for the betterment of disadvantaged sections of the society. Through TAAP, the Group educates, employs and empowers the underprivileged sections of the society, without sacrificing merit or quality.

Under the tenets of ‘Leadership with Care’ Tata Power addresses the social needs of the traditionally disadvantaged groups as a part of the Company’s nation building endeavour, employing a focused approach for the upliftment of these communities through the Tata Affirmative Action Programme.

This year, Tata Power’s Affirmative Action initiatives was recognised at the TAAP Annual Convention in three categories- ‘Significant Adoption’ of Tata Affirmative Action Programme, ‘Significant Adoption’ for the Education category, and ‘Good Practice’  for the comprehensive Need Assessment Study of the targeted SC/ST population in all its project sites.

The occasion was graced by presence of the Group Chairman, Cyrus Mistry, members of the Group Executive Council, and senior leadership of Tata Group. Anil Sardana, CEO and MD, Vivek Talwar, Chief Culture Officer and Chief Sustainability Officer, and Ms. Remya Mudliar, Process Owner – Affirmative Action, represented Tata Power at the occasion.

On receiving the Award, Anil Sardana, MD and CEO, Tata Power, said “Tata Power is committed to the betterment of the disadvantaged communities, and Affirmative Action by Tata Power will help foster diversity through the creation of an inclusive organisation. All the Divisions of Tata Power have driven the agenda of Affirmative Action deep into their ways of working, and these awards are a recognition of this effort.

With the expansion of the Tata Power Skill Development Institute, as well as our efforts towards socio-economic development of the Tribal community in Jawhar Taluka, our Affirmative Action is poised for a higher level of engagement with the disadvantaged communities”

At the group level, there are four thrust areas for Affirmative Action, viz. Employment, Entrepreneurship, Employability and Education. Apart from the 4Es, Tata Power has selected a 5th E, that is ‘Essential Amenities’ as an additional area of focus. Based on engagement and experience in Affirmative Action, the Company has realized that the 5th E that includes the basic necessary amenities like infrastructure, drinking water, sanitation, and healthcare, will improve the ‘quality of life’, and aid in fulfilling the group purpose statement for Affirmative Action.
