MUMBAI: Tata ClassEdge entered the space of education technology in 2011 and since then has been constantly innovating in pedagogy, technology and content with an aim to enhance learning experiences for CBSE, ICSE and various State Board schools in the K12 education landscape in India.
Not only does Tata ClassEdge provide the technology for the above state boards but it is also actively involved in supporting students from government schools and underprivileged areas. TCE has also kept in mind students with learning disabilities as they need special attention and often are least understood. These students usually do not get the required attention because of poor awareness among educators, resulting in poor school performance. As a result, many young, bright minds do not receive the support they need to achieve their full potential. As part of its CSR initiatiive, TCE set out to help these students by introducing a course on Learning Disabilities’ in association with Rukhshana Sholapurwala, a special educator, with an aim to develop basic awareness and sensitivity among teachers and school leaders about the topic. The course includes the types of learning disabilities and gives practical guidelines for identifying children who may need further evaluation. It also provides suggestions for remedial education.
The course is free and can be accessed on Tata ClassEdge’s YouTube channel – https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXxjzFEsRCjg4ge2ZcQxmmO1_G-T3I4Eb
The objective of this CSR initiative is to raise awareness about learning disabilities among Indian teachers as not all poor performance in schools can be attributed to learning disabilities in children and sometimes the reason could be a learning disability. If so, teachers should be aware of what constitutes a disability and recommend a proper assessment to identify if a child indeed has a learning disability.
This module was just introduced by TCE and has already been viewed 200 times so far. To showcase this initiative to teachers and schools for children with such disabilities, Tata ClassEdge is sharing emailers, direct interaction and other forms of reminders to get this course across to as many teachers as possible. Through this CSR initiative, TCE aims to help change the education landscape for children with learning disabilities and ensure they get the desired attention.
