New Delhi: Standard Chartered Bank has partnered with Habitat for Humanity India to provide 969 women in the states of Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Odisha with upskilling, alternative livelihood opportunities, and assistance in establishing micro-enterprises to generate additional income.
The project, called Empowering Women and Improving Life through Livelihood Interventions, aims to equip the women with leadership and technical skills and engage them in income generation activities to empower them to achieve strength, stability, and self-reliance. This was accomplished by forming and strengthening 85 self-help groups (SHGs) across the three states, through which the women were brought together, trained in business development, marketing, and government scheme comprehension.
The SHGs were then assisted in establishing their own businesses through seed funding, hand-holding, and multi-level technical training. The micro-enterprises focused on agriculture, agro-allied activities, and home-based enterprises. Standard Chartered Bank’s collaboration with Habitat for Humanity India is part of the bank’s changemakers initiative, which aims to empower women for economic growth.
