New Delhi: Jamuna Kotma Area(JKA) of SECL, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited has distributed eco-friendly shopping bags to the villagers in Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh. The company has distributed these eco-friendly bags in the nearby mining areas of the company to discourage the use of plastic bags.
JKA has distributed around 500 shopping bags in 8 villages of the district. Distribution of bags has been done by the door to door visit to the villagers. The involvement of the top management of the company in the delivery of the bags delighted the villagers.
“We are in the process of making a brand for these bags and connecting this self-help group to online market opportunities”, said Ashish Suryawanshi, Asst. Manager, CSR.
These eco-friendly bags are stitched from the members of a women self-help group. Under the CSR, the company has given sewing machines to these women. This has provided a short employment opportunity to the women.
“We are linking these women to other opportunities related to stitching”, said Ashish. According to him, the interlinking of the regular projects of the company has excellent potential to provide benefits to rural communities residing within the vicinity of the mines.
