NEW DELHI (India CSR): SOS Children’s Villages India, in a collaborative effort with Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital, set up a one-day free eye check-up camp for 137 children and caregivers across the NGO’s Family Like Care and Family Strengthening Programmes.
In today’s time, when myopia (near-sightedness) and hypermetropia (far-sightedness) is becoming more prevalent, it is the need of hour to detect eye related issues in kids. Families should take necessary steps to detect if their child is suffering from myopia and hypermetropia or any other eye concerns. In this regard, vulnerable children, get limited access to basic medical facilities, including eye health check-ups which can leads to lack of concentration in studies, which impacts their overall learning capabilities. Initiatives like these can help them understand and take necessary precautions for their eye health.

Sumanta Kar, CEO, SOS Children’s Villages India, said, “Nowadays, children are more vulnerable to eye-related issues, and at their age, they struggle to understand or explain the challenge that they are facing. We ensure the overall well-being of children and mothers under our umbrella of care, which is our central idea. Our engagement with Dr Agrawals Eye Hospital, has enabled us to provide timely eye screening and preventive care, helping our programme participants address vision concerns”.
This collaboration aimed to provide preventive early diagnosis for eye diseases such as weak eyesight, colour blindness, and lazy eyes. A team of qualified doctors and medical staff from Dr Agrawals Eye Hospital screened the children and provided basic consultations and preventive measures to the children and caregivers so that they can be guarded against any eye-related issues in future. In case any treatment is required, the team has consulted further diagnosis.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr Karthikeya, Senior Consultant – Vitreoretina, Uvea & ROP, Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital, said “Many eye problems in children go unnoticed when regular screening is not done. Identifying these issues early helps prevent them from affecting a child’s studies and daily activities. Through outreach camps like these, we can provide quality eye care to children who may not otherwise get timely medical help.”
This engagement reflects SOS Children’s Villages and Dr Agrawals Eye Hospitals goal to work on healthcare for children. This is a step towards the overall growth of the vulnerable children and providing basic medical services to them.
