Windows are an important part of any building because they let in natural light, air flow, and views of the outside environment. Eventually, window hinges may break, making it hard to close or open the window correctly. Fortunately, changing window hinges is a simple job that can be done by anyone with a few tools and some knowledge. But hiring a professional like https://www.handymansingapore.net/window-hinges-replacement/ can ensure that the work will be done perfectly. This article will show you how to properly repair window hinges.

Step 1: Get your materials and tools together

Gather all the necessary equipment and materials before you start the repair process to make sure it goes smoothly and quickly. First, get the brand-new window hinges and make sure they are the same type and size as the old ones. You need a screwdriver to take screws out and put them back in. A putty knife is useful for scraping off old paint or sealant. A lubricant, such as silicone spray, will help the hinge work smoothly. Don’t forget to put safety first by wearing gloves and masks to keep both your eyes and hands safe. After getting these things together, you can confidently move on to the next step of fixing your window hinges. It’s better to hire a professional like https://www.handymansingapore.net/electrician-services/ as they’ll have the necessary tools required for the job.

Step 2: Take off the old hinges

Begin by opening your window as much as it can go. Make use of a screwdriver to take out the screws that keep the old window hinges in place. Window frames and sashes may both have nuts, depending on how the window is made. Don’t lose the nuts; you’ll require them later. Once all the screws are taken out, gently remove the old hinges from the window sash and frame. Scrape off any leftover paint or sealant that has stuck to the region around the hinges with a putty knife. This will keep the surface clean so that the new hinges can be put on.

Step 3: Put the new hinges on

Place the brand-new hinges on the frame and sash of your window, coordinating them with the pre-existing screw holes. Place the screws in place and use a screwdriver to tighten them up. Avoid tightening the screws too much, as this might damage the hinge or remove the threads. After putting in the new hinges, ensure that the window opens and closes easily. You might have to slightly readjust the hinges if your window feels tight or binds. Loosen the screws a little and move the hinges around until the window works well.

Step 4: Grease the hinges

It’s a good idea to grease the hinges after putting them together to make sure they work well and last a long time. Be careful not to use too much grease when you put it on the moving components of the hinges. Use a clean cloth to wipe off any extra oil. Greasing the hinges will make it easier for the windows to close and open by reducing wear and friction. One easy step can make an enormous impact in how well your windows work over time.

Step 5: Check and make adjustments

After installing and greasing the hinges, check the window once again to ensure that it opens and shuts easily. Watch out for places where the window might be stuck or binding. Change the position of its hinges again if you need to until the window works perfectly. Lastly, make sure the window seals correctly against drafts and fits even with its frame when closed by inspecting it from the inside and outside. If the hinges aren’t lined up right or there are gaps, you may need to add weather-stripping or fix them further.
