Should I upgrade my old Laptop or switch to a new laptop?

The components of your laptop have a limited lifespan. Use them long enough and they can give up one fine day.

Laptops are one of the most popular types of computing devices that individuals prefer buying. They’re light, compact, easily transported, and can be just as powerful as a typical desktop PC. But then, as with any computing device, laptops can lose their performance overtime. Here’s where a dilemma begins. Should you upgrade your old laptop or switch to a new one? Especially since purchasing laptops on EMI is now more accessible than ever? Let’s address this issue once and for all.

When Should You Upgrade Your Old Laptop?

The decision to upgrade your old laptop should be taken only after carefully considering your needs, requirements, and use cases. For example, here’s a quick look at a few instances where you can consider upgrading your old laptop.

1.    You need more storage space

If you’re an individual who stores a lot of files and documents on your laptop, then the built-in storage space offered by the device may not be enough. In such cases, you may consider upgrading the storage of your laptop by adding an additional hard drive or a Solid State Drive (SSD).

2.    Opening multiple programs slows your computer down

This could be a result of slow or inadequate RAM or slow storage. In both of these scenarios, you can consider upgrading to a faster RAM module with a higher capacity. On top of that, you can also try upgrading your storage device from a regular Hard Disk Drive to a Solid State Drive (SSD).

3.    The battery doesn’t last long

If your laptop’s battery is seemingly losing its storage capacity over time, then you can consider swapping out the old battery with a newer one with a higher capacity. With this, you can continue to use your laptop for a few more years.

When Should You Switch to a New Laptop?

While upgrading your existing laptop may be a good idea to extend its life a bit further, switching to a new one comes with several benefits. Also, the decision to switch should again be taken only after considering your needs and requirements. Here are a few instances where switching to a new laptop makes more sense.

1.    You use heavy and resource intensive applications

If you’re an individual who frequently uses resource intensive applications such as the ones used for editing videos or creating animations, then upgrading your old laptop may not cut it. As we continue to move towards faster and more powerful CPUs and graphics cards, purchasing a new laptop can help speed up your activities significantly.

2.    You wish to switch to a newer operating system

Newer operating systems like Windows 11 are not compatible with older laptops. This might mean that you would have to stick to older operating systems, which may not be as secure as the newer ones. In such a scenario, switching to a new laptop can solve the issue since you wouldn’t just be able to enjoy the newer OS, but also get to receive constant updates.

3.    Your laptop is showing its age

The components of your laptop have a limited lifespan. Use them long enough and they can give up one fine day. If you feel that key components of the laptop such as the keyboard, trackpad, and the display are beginning to show signs of aging, then switching to a new laptop may just be the perfect option for you.

Conclusion

That said, if you’re worried about the high cost of laptops deterring you from purchasing one, there’s a solution – Apply for a Bajaj Finserv card through Bajaj MARKETS right away and get yourself a brand new laptop! It is a unique financial tool that allows you to purchase laptops on EMIs through both online and offline channels.

That’s not all. You can also keep track of your EMIs and other purchases by simply logging into the Bajaj Customer Portal using your Bajaj Finance Experia login credentials. So, what’re you waiting for?
