On the occasion of Children’s Day, Scholastic India conducted a pan-India campaign to promote reading among the underprivileged children by reaching out to multiple NGOs across various cities. They hosted storytelling sessions in sixteen NGOs across the country and donated books to underprivileged kids.
While education is important, it is not just textbooks that impart it. Storybooks help children develop a habit of reading which in turn, helps improve fluency and comprehension, enhances the imagination and guarantees future academic success. Children enjoyed these storytelling sessions and learned a lot from it.
“Scholastic has a rich tradition of giving back to society through its various book donation drives across the world. We are extremely happy to be partnering with NGOs and interest groups that work in the field of literacy and reading” said Shantanu Duttagupta, Published.
The goal is to empower youths and minorities for quality learning, higher academic performance, and professional development and reduce school drop-outs due to lack of resources. Scholastic has successfully implemented several literacy initiatives and projects to further learning and quality education.
To promote reading and its benefits, Scholastic India also conducted a social media campaign with the hashtag, let’s read for change in hopes of reaching a wider reach and more visibility.
”We tend to overlook the importance of books and how much difference they make in a child’s life. We want to change that. We want to sow the seed at the earliest stage. We want to make a difference.” said Neeraj Jain, Managing Director.
Scholastic India donated over 100 books to each NGO and covered sixteen NGOs across multiple cities in the country under this initiative. To name a few, Brave Hearts from Kolkata, Sarthak The foundation from Lucknow, Youngistan Foundation from Hyderabad, Kutumb from Delhi, Yet to Close from Gurgaon, Christel House from Raipur are a few NGO’s where these sessions were conducted.
Reading not only exercises the brain but also improves concentration. It is one of the impactful ways of learning. The children at NGO’s were happy and encouraged for reading with the sessions organized by Scholastic India.
