The app has been specially developed for last mile, rural students who learn in local languages.
In the current times, it’s not just our English medium students but also the local language rural learners, who are locked down in their homes and have received a major setback to their learning cycle. Our underserved brothers and sisters whose children study at government schools and NGOs, are in fact facing a much bigger challenge with their children because of extreme scarcity of engagement and educational tools, and highly increased fear of the unexpected losses and misdirections that such situations can bring to their vulnerable kids.
There is an urgent need to facilitate access to an in-home digital education supplement for our students from humble backgrounds learning in local languages. A lot of mobile apps and solutions are available for english medium students but for local languages, and that too with complete curriculum content, is a major gap area with very few options available for them.
Therefore, the iDream Learning App deserves a special mention.
In these lockdown times due to the coronavirus pandemic, iDream Education, a social edtech organization has taken this step forward to launch this free learning app for the underprivileged. The app has been specially developed for last mile, rural students who learn in local languages.
We checked out the app to know what it offers for our social beneficiaries.
App Coverage: Classes, Content & Languages
The app offers enjoyable digital content for all classes from 1st to 12th and in all major subjects including Math, EVS, Science, Social Sciences, Commerce, Computers and English.
It currently offers digital content in major local languages including hindi, marathi, gujarati, tamil, telugu, kannada and bengali.
A great value of the iDream Learning App that I found is that it offers educational digital content of different types including Animated Video Lessons, project and activity videos and a rich digital book library in a single view to the student. All of this content is in their mother tongue and has been aligned to their state boards for best of learning continuation.
Especially for Hindi medium students, the iDream Learning App has very comprehensive digital content for all subjects and all classes till 12th, including digital books and projects in hindi, thereby making it the best learning app in hindi.
Ease of Use
The mobile app is definitely very easy to use and we could see that it has been made in a manner that any parent or student from the most humble background can use it.
Once downloaded from the play store, the app asks for an OTP and post verification, it simply offers three steps.
- Board Selection
- Language Selection (if the content is available in two languages for any state board)
- Class Selection
Post that the home screen comes with the categories and types of digital content that the app offers for learning.
Academic Value as an in-home supplement
We tried some of the content and it indeed seems very engaging and enriching. The animated video lessons are a very interesting supplement for concept clarity.
The activity videos amazed us. Students would just love to make toys and projects from everyday, free material and with the videos being in their local languages. This can be great free activities that can be done at homes!
The book library had a very wide range of digital books, ranging from stories, inspirational books, subjects and art books.
Finally, the app also has a very relevant section on Life Skills. It has video lessons on self development, health, hygiene and other life skills very important for the students.
Outreach to the Social Sector, NGOs and the Government Schools Machinery
iDream Learning App fulfills a very timely and pressing need for the social sector in school education.
“The Army in Kashmir has been one of the first users of the iDream Learning App in the lockdown times, where the app is now being circulated to the parents and students of all the Army Goodwill Schools across kashmir, so that the students can continue their education from their homes in these difficult times.”, Says Punit Goyal, Founder, iDream Learning App.
Many national NGOs and CSR organisations have come together and partnered with iDream Education to take the mobile application to their target beneficiaries across different states in India.
If you are connected to government schools, charitable schools, NGOs or organizations working with underserved students and wish to share the iDream Learning App with them, just copy the link below and share with them.
It is indeed a worthy initiative and can align our rural communities and their children to stay connected with education and growth in these times of social distancing.
