Rotary Club of Gurgaon Harmony Iberis through a Global Grant of Rs 1.65 Crores has sponsored a Heart Lung Machine and funded 66 life-saving child heart surgeries at Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital in Palwal, Haryana amidst the COVID pandemic.
To commemorate the culmination of this project, the Rotary Club members visited the Hospital to present the ‘Gift of Life Certificate’ to some of the beneficiary children under this project. The event was virtually attended by members of Rotary Club of Fort Wayne in the USA who are partners in this project.
Rotary Club of Gurgaon Harmony Iberis President, Mukta Malhotra during this ceremony mentioned, “Rotary’s goal is to provide humanitarian service and through this project with Sai Sanjeevani Hospital, Rotary has given new life to 66 needy children especially during this Pandemic. Rotary has not only uplifted these 66 families financially but made a long term impact towards nation building by giving healthy children back to the society.”
India remains the world’s capital for Congenital Heart Disease, with over 300,000 children born with this each year. Without medical/surgical care, over 25 percent of children die before their first birthday. Only a small fraction of children with CHD can afford cardiac surgery, since sophisticated paediatric care is expensive and beyond the reach of citizens belonging to the underprivileged sections of society. COVID affected this vulnerable population all the more as treatment for CHD became unavailable in Government Hospitals.
Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospitals are a chain of dedicated Pediatric Cardiac Hospitals addressing the national problem of CHD, wherein all services are provided totally free of cost to all. With presence in Naya Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Palwal (Haryana), and Kharghar (Navi Mumbai), these hospitals have performed over 13,700 child heart surgeries and interventions since 2012.
