MUMBAI (India CSR): The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) reported that the money markets recorded robust activity across segments, with a net liquidity absorption of Rs. 1,79,528.33 crore from the system, highlighting tight liquidity conditions.
Overnight Market Activity
The overnight money market segment registered a total volume of Rs. 6,70,429.03 crore at a weighted average rate of 5.39%, with rates ranging from 2.00% to 6.40%.
- Call money market transactions stood at ₹18,313.38 crore at 5.45%.
- Triparty repo dominated activity with ₹4,36,906.95 crore at 5.39%.
- Market repo accounted for ₹2,11,600.35 crore.
- Repo in corporate bonds saw a smaller volume of ₹3,608.35 crore at 5.60%.
Term Segment Trends
In the term segment, notice money touched Rs. 218 crore at 5.35%, while term money stood at Rs. 504 crore, with rates ranging from 5.60–6.00%. Triparty repo in this segment reached Rs. 1,320 crore, and market repo registered Rs. 670 crore at 5.71%. No activity was reported in repo against corporate bonds.
RBI Liquidity Operations
Under RBI’s Liquidity Adjustment Facility (LAF) and other windows:
- Borrowings under the Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) stood at ₹1,837 crore at 5.75%.
- Deposits under the Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) amounted to ₹1,16,270 crore at 5.25%.
- Net liquidity absorbed from these operations was ₹1,14,433 crore.
Additionally, outstanding reverse repo operations of ₹75,781 crore at 5.49% further tightened system liquidity.
Standing Liquidity Facility and Bank Reserves
Scheduled commercial banks availed Rs. 10,685.67 crore under the Standing Liquidity Facility (SLF). The overall net liquidity absorption, combining outstanding and current operations, stood at Rs. 1,79,528.33 crore.
The cash reserves of scheduled commercial banks with the RBI stood at Rs. 9,62,618.80 crore against an average daily requirement of Rs. 9,63,210 crore for the fortnight ending September 5, 2025.
Net Durable Liquidity
RBI data also showed that the net durable liquidity as of August 8, 2025, was in surplus at Rs. 4,98,055 crore, even as day-to-day operations indicated temporary absorption of funds.
