India’s First AI-Optimized Datacentre in Chhattisgarh to House 1 Lakh GPUs and Create 500 Jobs
RAIPUR, CHHATTISGARH (India CSR): In a major boost to India’s digital infrastructure and the emerging artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem, RackBank Datacenters has launched a cutting-edge Rs 1,000-crore AI Datacentre Park in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. This ambitious initiative is set to redefine how India powers the future of AI, cloud, and high-performance computing (HPC), while generating employment and boosting the local economy.
The datacentre, inaugurated by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, is India’s first AI-specialized datacentre in the region and marks a historic technological leap for the state.
Building India’s AI Backbone
Spread across 13.5 acres in Raipur, the first phase of the AI Datacentre Park boasts an 80MW capacity and will house an astounding 1 lakh GPUs, making it one of the largest AI-focused datacentres in the country. The datacentre will support compute-heavy AI workloads including generative AI models, machine learning training, and deep learning applications.
“This is not just a datacentre—it’s an infrastructure for India’s AI dreams,” said Narendra Sen, Founder and CEO of RackBank. “We’re proud to align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s IndiaAI Mission by building a world-class facility that fuels innovation, economic growth, and sustainable digital transformation.”
Scaling Future Investments
According to company officials, RackBank plans to invest up to ₹3,000 crore over multiple phases to build an even larger AI infrastructure ecosystem. The facility will be developed in three additional phases with rack densities ranging from 80 kW to 200 kW per rack—catering to diverse industry needs including fintech, health tech, edtech, and agritech.
The datacentre is part of RackBank’s national strategy to decentralize India’s AI infrastructure beyond metros and bring technological progress to tier-2 regions like Chhattisgarh.

Job Creation and Local Opportunities
The project is expected to create over 500 jobs in Raipur, with an immediate plan to employ 200 skilled professionals over the next five years. These opportunities will span across engineering, IT operations, facility management, customer support, and cybersecurity.
“The RackBank AI Datacentre Park will serve as a catalyst for talent development in Chhattisgarh,” said CM Vishnu Deo Sai. “It’s a significant step towards a knowledge-driven economy, encouraging innovation and transforming our state into a digital powerhouse.”
Sustainability Through Advanced Cooling Technology
AI datacentres are power-intensive by nature. RackBank has committed to operating this facility sustainably using direct-to-chip cooling and its patented liquid immersion cooling system, Varuna.
This advanced system reduces power and water consumption, achieving:
- Up to 70% lower cooling costs
- Enhanced energy efficiency
- Improved GPU performance and life cycle
The use of Varuna liquid cooling places the Raipur AI datacentre among the most energy-efficient and environmentally conscious facilities in India.
Digital Infrastructure for a Smart State
The new datacentre is strategically positioned within the Chhattisgarh Special Economic Zone (SEZ), where an additional 2.70 hectares has been earmarked for expansion. This initiative reflects the state government’s progressive industrial policy, which focuses on attracting high-tech investments and enabling a future-ready infrastructure landscape.
In his address at the inauguration, CM Sai stated:
“Chhattisgarh is ready to lead India’s AI and digital revolution. Our policies are designed to empower such futuristic investments, and we welcome RackBank’s commitment to transform Raipur into a national datacentre hub.”
Strengthening India’s Digital Sovereignty
The RackBank AI Datacentre is part of a larger narrative where India is reducing its dependency on foreign cloud and compute infrastructure. With generative AI booming across sectors—from agriculture to autonomous systems—the need for home-grown compute power is more urgent than ever.
RackBank’s initiative directly supports:
- IndiaAI Mission goals
- Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) initiatives
- Start-up India ecosystem
- Make in India and Digital India campaigns
“India must lead the AI revolution—not just as a user, but as a builder of its digital backbone,” Narendra Sen emphasized.
Earlier Success in Madhya Pradesh
This isn’t RackBank’s first major venture into large-scale datacentres. In October 2024, the company inaugurated another 80MW AI datacentre in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, which has since become a key facility supporting both domestic and international cloud services. The Raipur project further consolidates RackBank’s role as a frontrunner in India’s data infrastructure sector.
A New Era Begins in Chhattisgarh
The inauguration of RackBank’s AI Datacentre Park in Raipur is not merely a milestone for the company—it’s a pivotal moment for India’s digital and AI ecosystem. As the demand for advanced computing power surges, this facility positions Chhattisgarh on the global map of tech innovation.
By enabling secure, scalable, and cost-effective AI capabilities domestically, India takes a giant leap forward in becoming a self-reliant digital superpower.
