PM Modi to Dedicate CSPGCL’s Rs 15,800 Cr Super Critical Thermal Plant (2×660 MW) in Chhattisgarh

BILASPUR, CHHATTISGARH (India CSR): In a major leap towards energy self-reliance, Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL) is set to commence work on its first-ever Super Critical Thermal Power Project—a 2×660 MW (1,320 MW) plant worth Rs 15,800 crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will initiate the project’s construction on 30th March 2025 in Bilaspur, marking a significant milestone in the state’s power infrastructure.

Why This Project Matters

Chhattisgarh, already a power surplus state, is taking a giant step forward with this supercritical technology-based plant, which promises:
✔ Higher efficiency (40%+) compared to conventional coal plants (30-35%)
✔ Lower coal consumption, reducing operational costs
✔ Reduced CO2 emissions, supporting India’s net-zero goals
✔ Enhanced power supply for industries, homes, and future demand

Key Features of the Super Critical Plant

  • Location: Bilaspur district (exact site to be finalized)
  • Capacity: 2 units of 660 MW each (total 1,320 MW)
  • Technology: Supercritical boiler (operates at higher pressure & temperature)
  • Investment: Rs 15,800 crore (one of the largest state-funded power projects)
  • Expected Completion: Likely by 2028-29

How It Benefits Chhattisgarh & Beyond

  1. Powering Industries & Homes
    • Will ensure stable electricity supply for Chhattisgarh’s growing industrial hubs (Raipur, Bhilai, Korba).
    • Reduces dependency on other states for power.
  2. Cleaner & More Efficient Energy
    • Supercritical plants emit 15-20% less CO2 than traditional subcritical plants.
    • Aligns with India’s Net Zero by 2070 commitment.
  3. Economic Boost & Job Creation
    • Expected to generate thousands of direct & indirect jobs during construction and operation.
    • Will attract more industries due to reliable power availability.

What’s Next?

  • PM Modi to lay the foundation stone on 30th March 2025 in Bilaspur.
  • Bidding & contractor finalization to begin soon.
  • Land acquisition & environmental clearances in advanced stages.

You Learn: A Game-Changer for Chhattisgarh’s Energy Future

This Rs 15,800 crore CSPGCL Super Critical Thermal Power Project is not just about electricity—it’s about sustainable growth, industrial expansion, and energy security for Chhattisgarh.
