NEW DELHI (India CSR): A massive car explosion near Delhi’s iconic Red Fort on Monday evening left eight people dead and at least 24 injured, sending shockwaves through the national capital. The blast occurred around 6:52 PM, when a slow-moving car stopped at a traffic signal and suddenly burst into flames, according to Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, Times of India reported.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken stock of the situation and was briefed by Home Minister Amit Shah, government sources confirmed. Amit Shah spoke to the Delhi Police Commissioner and the Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) to assess the situation and directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Security Guard (NSG), and the Directorate of Forensic Sciences to dispatch specialized teams to the blast site for an immediate investigation and evidence collection.
Area Sealed, Probe Underway
The entire Red Fort area has been cordoned off, and forensic and anti-terror teams are conducting spot analysis. Preliminary reports suggest multiple vehicles were damaged due to the impact of the explosion. Officials have not ruled out any possibility, including a terror angle, until investigations conclude.

Locals described scenes of chaos following the explosion. “We heard a loud bang and saw flames engulfing vehicles. I even saw a hand lying on the road,” said one eyewitness, recalling the horrific aftermath.

Following the blast, Delhi and Mumbai have been placed on high alert, with intensified security checks at major public areas, transport hubs, and sensitive installations.
