Katra: A panel discussion on the burning topic “Corporate & Corruption” was organized on 8 Sep 2011 by MarketINE (The Marketing Club) in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra. The discussion covered various aspects of Corporate Corruption like Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Corporate Governance and Ethical Issue.
The panelists included Faculty Members like Dr.V.K.Tripathi, Dr. Ashutosh Vishisht, Dr. Saurabh Srivastav, Dr. Samantha Vaishnavi and students of College of Management including Nitish Tickoo, Arush, Amran, Vishal Mahajan and Abhishek.
The relevance of discussing Corruption in Corporate world is becoming more and more because new and new frauds and cases of corruption by Corporate world are being witnessed nowadays.
All the panelists gave their opinion about corruption in corporate world and corruption as a problem at large. It was the opinion of the house that there is no corruption as such but there are corrupt people. It was also agreed that corruption basically is using the power for personal pleasures.
Various cases and there root causes were discussed like the Satyam Scam, 2G Scam, Telgi Scam. Lastly it was concluded that corruption is due to greed, circumstances, opportunities and temptations and it can’t be stopped by merely by enforcing rules, laws, regulations rather we have to embed a culture in the society by making it more ethical, accountable and having high moral values.
At last students Aditya Chuni, Sakshi Khullar and Sahil Bhagotra concluded the event by talking about the various issues raised by the panelists and what their possible solution could be.The coordinators of the event were Akhil Verma, Ankush Verma, TarunSharma, Meenakshal Sharma, Surabhi Kaul and Aayushi Sharma.
Dean College of management Prof. D Mukhopadhyay emphasized the requirement of strong and dynamic regulatory structure to restrain corporate from involving in corruption. In his concluding speech Hon’ble Vice Chancellor SMVD University, Prof. R.N.K Bamezai said that “When we are building a society, we should build it with character”.
He emphasized that if all kinds of corporate structures and management adopts the Gandhian model of ‘trusteeship’ then the corruption can be dealt at root level.The discussion ended with a vote of thanks by the members of MarketINE club.
