BILASPUR (Chhattisgarh): Niharika Barik Singh, IAS, Divisional Commissioner inaugurated the one day workshop on menstrual hygiene for the adolescent girl on 2 March 2017 at Vaishali club of NTPC Sipat. Among other dignitaries Shri Asim kumar Samanta, Group General Manager (NTPC-Sipat) and Smt Tanushree Samanta, President, Sangwari Mahila Smaiti, Chief Medical Officer, Shri Bharat Bhushan Bode, Gyning Specialist, Dr. Pratibha J Mishra, and Dr. Rashmi Budhi and Dr. Sushma Singh, President NIDAN. The workshop was organised under the aegis of Corporate Social Responsibility-Community Development (CSR-CD) activity in association with “NIDAN”.
The objective of the programme was to sensitize the adolescent girls about personal hygiene during their menstrual cycle.
Speaking on this occasion Chief Guest, Smt Niharika Barik Singh, urged all the presented school teachers to educate the girls as well as their family members about menstrual hygiene. She also released the souvenir “Mukti” on this occasion.
Shri Samanta spoke on the importance of cleanliness and its impact on environment. He thanked NIDAN to sensitize girls on this issue. Going one step ahead on this issue NTPC is going to install a sanitary napkin unit in village Devri, that will be provided to the girl students at a very nominal cost.
Dr. Budhia said our society is a conservative society, discussing such issue is considered as a taboo, so awareness on this issue is very low among the women. Particularly the adolescent school going girls in this period is facing lots of problem, due to this her education got affected as they remain absent from school.
Large number of girl students and teacher from 70 school were participated in this workshop.
