Despite a dip in power generation, the company maintained high efficiency and strong profitability.
NEW DELHI (India CSR): NTPC Ltd., India’s largest power producer, announced its unaudited financial results for the first quarter of FY26, reporting robust profit growth on both standalone and consolidated fronts, despite a dip in power generation.
With a total installed group capacity of approximately 83 GW, the NTPC Group generated around 110 billion units of electricity in Q1 FY26, slightly lower than 114 billion units in Q1 FY25. NTPC’s standalone generation also saw a dip, recording 91 billion units versus 98 billion units in the same quarter last year.
However, the company demonstrated operational efficiency. Its coal-based power stations achieved a Plant Load Factor (PLF) of 75.16% — significantly higher than the Rest of India’s average PLF of 67.67% during the same period.
On the financial front, NTPC posted a 6% increase in standalone Profit After Tax (PAT), which rose to Rs. 4,775 crore in Q1 FY26, up from Rs. 4,511 crore in Q1 FY25. Standalone total income stood at Rs. 43,333 crore, compared to ₹45,053 crore in the corresponding period last year.
On a consolidated basis, PAT surged by 11% to Rs. 6,108 crore in Q1 FY26, from Rs. 5,506 crore in Q1 FY25. The group’s total income was Rs. 47,821 crore, slightly down from Rs. 48,982 crore in Q1 FY25.

Despite lower revenue and generation figures, NTPC’s strong profit performance reflects effective cost management and operational resilience. The results signal continued confidence in NTPC’s strategic direction and reinforce its position as a leader in India’s power sector.
