PUNE: Padmashree Dr. Subhash Palekar, an esteemed authority on natural farming, recently addressed the 2nd India CSR Maharashtra Summit. In his compelling speech, he emphasized the crucial role of the agricultural sector in India’s development, advocating for the majority of CSR funds to be allocated towards its growth.
The summit, held on December 17, 2023, at Hotel Clarks Inn, Pune, focused on the impact and future of CSR in Maharashtra over the past decade. The event witnessed the launch of the RRR Astore Green Rickshaw Mobile Repair store, an innovative initiative for Repair and Reuse of daily used devises like mobile, laptop, tabulates and any other electronics devices and e-waste collection.
Rusen Kumar, founder and Managing Editor of India CSR, remarked on the success of the summit, emphasizing its significance in driving forward the CSR agenda in Maharashtra.
Dr. Sanjay Gandhi, Vice President of Pune Management Association and CMD of Aspire Knowledge & Skills India, highlighted the unique triple solution approach of the RRR Astore Green rickshaw. This initiative aims at promoting sustainability, providing employment, and managing electronic waste effectively.
Dr. Palekar’s strong advocacy for a shift in the focus of CSR funds towards agriculture underscores the potential for corporate involvement in resolving key societal issues. His call for transparency and authenticity in promoting indigenous farming techniques challenges the prevailing trends in the agricultural sector, advocating for a return to more sustainable, local practices.
Agriculture and Corporate Responsibility
Dr. Palekar pointed out the discrepancies plaguing the agricultural sector, stressing the significant influence of the corporate world and farming methods on these issues. He raised concerns about the increasing toxicity in food production, underlining the need for immediate action given the alarming impact of climate change on agriculture.
The Threat of Global Intellectual Extremism
Dr. Palekar criticized what he termed as “Global Intellectual Extremism,” which he believes misguides Indian farmers, consumers, and policymakers. He argued that this extremism promotes foreign organic farming technologies as indigenous, creating confusion over local and foreign practices. Dr. Palekar expressed his concern over the misrepresentation and confusion surrounding authentic Indian agricultural practices and technologies.
Subhash Palekar Krishi (SPK) – A Revolutionary Approach
Dr. Palekar elaborated on his unique agricultural technology, Subhash Palekar Krishi (SPK), developed over 24 years of research. SPK utilizes techniques like Bijamrita, Ghanajiwamrita, Jiwamrita, straw mulching, and promotes biodiversity, based on principles of knowledge, science, truth, nonviolence, spirituality, and social responsibility. He lamented the fact that his methodology is often rebranded as “Natural Farming” by various organizations without proper acknowledgment or permission.
RRR Astore Green Rickshaw Mobile Repair Store Launched
The RRR Astore Green Rickshaw Mobile Repair store, introduced at the summit, is a groundbreaking solution addressing three critical areas of sustainable development. Firstly, it serves as a mobile platform for raising awareness about sustainable development practices. Strategically parked in various locations like villages, schools, and bus stands, it educates the public through displays and demonstrations.
Empowering Through Employment
Secondly, the initiative aims to create ‘Nano entrepreneurs.’ These individuals will receive support through subsidies, loans via the PMEGP scheme, and mobile repair training. Equipped with repair tools and business management assistance, they are set to earn a stable income through the Triple R Rickshaw, which offers on-the-spot repair services. Additionally, these entrepreneurs will be part of the Astore Sanjeevani Insurance Scheme, ensuring the repair and insurance of household electronic devices.
Addressing the E-Waste Challenge
The third aspect of this initiative tackles the growing problem of electronic waste. The RRR Astore Green rickshaws will collect e-waste directly from the community, sorting and sending it to recycling centers. This approach not only manages waste effectively but also educates the public about the importance of recycling and responsible waste disposal.
