Maximizing Endodontic Success: The Role Of Absorbent Paper Points
Share Share Share Share

Every part of the endodontic practice, from diagnosis to final obturation, demands careful handling. Drying of the root canal following irrigation and before filling is one important aspect of this procedure. If any water or solution remains in the canal, it can lead to failures and patient discomfort, compromising the success of the treatment. This is the place where absorbent paper points become useful. These cones are made by professionals with a high level of absorption and strict fitting for perfect drying of the root canal before finishing. The paper points in which they work, make endodontic treatment more efficient and increase the success rates of these procedures.

What are the benefits of using absorbent paper points?

1. Efficient Moisture Removal:

Problem: Sealants applied to root canals may often prove difficult to bond due to moisture.

Solution: When it comes to sealing materials used for a root canal, paper points are good at drying out fluids, such as blood or rinsing solutions.

2. Precise Canal Measurement and Cleaning:

Problem: Accurate depth and shape measurement in root canals facilitates thorough cleaning.

Solution: Dentists use various mm marked paper points that assist them in determining working length for complete cleaning of all parts within the passage.

3. Faster Obturation (Sealing) Process:

Problem: A well-sealed canal is important during effective root canal therapy.

Solution: Paper points allow faster closure as they ready the canal space, remove debris and make obturation easy.

4. Aiding in Canal Culture Testing:

Problem: At times, it is mandatory to know the type of bacteria that caused an infection before choosing a treatment plan.

Solution: Paper points can be used to collect bacterial culture testing from canal samples, which enhances accurate diagnosis.

 5. Strength and Retention:

Even when wet, the tight rollings of paper points will still maintain their size and shape making easy manipulation in the canal very possible.

6. Wicking Ability:

Another term used to refer to wicking is capillary action which is the ability of paper points used with correct solvents like alcohol to draw out materials during paste removal.

How do absorbent paper points work?

 Determine Working Length:

a. After profound anaesthesia, gently pass a blunt end of a paper point into the canal.

b. Check any moisture or blood on that part of the paper point beyond the apex.

c. This can be used to estimate the working length or junction between root apex and bone.

Insertion and Absorption:

a. Using an appropriate instrument, select suitably sized paper, point it, and insert it into the canal.

b. Advance until resistance is felt, indicating that it has reached its intended depth.

c. Put the paper point in position for a few seconds, allowing it to absorb any remaining fluidity as it helps in drying up the canal fully.

Reliability Considerations:

a. There may be unreliable results whenever the pulp is not completely removed.

b. Data that cannot be trusted might arise if the tooth lacks a pulp but has an inflamed periapical lesion with blood supply.

c. Another course that can cause untrustworthy data is when we leave ablution paper in a canal for a long time.

Removal and Final Inspection:

a. Carefully take out the paper point from the canal using the same instrument as used for insertion.

b. The cleanliness and dry ness of the canal must be checked before going to the final stage of obturation.

Obturation:

 a. Fill in the gutta percha based root sealer that will prevent re-infection, whereas, at once, it will ensure successful prophylactic treatment of root canals.

What are the features of absorbent paper points?

Here are the key features that absorbent paper points should possess from a dental industry perspective:

High Absorbency:

a. Moisture, blood, and other fluids or liquids are effectively relieved by these absorbents’ corner points on passing through their structures up to their other sides towards their surface.

b. This feature ensures inside the passage so that stickiness during the obturation process could occur between sealers and gutta-percha, thus promoting optimal bond with adhesion in this way without leading to any disadvantages.

c. Debris, which builds up within root canals, causes bacteria, while high absorbency levels make it possible for a good result of such types of treatments.

Precision Sizing:

a. Different sizes should be made available for paper points to match precisely with the dimensions of the prepared root canal.

b. Such measurements carried out meticulously confirm whether these absorptive materials are packed tightly into root channels.

c. Dentists rely on paper points of different sizes to accommodate the varying anatomical features of teeth and ensure thorough cleaning and shaping of the canal.

Flexibility and Strength:

a. The absorbent points should be capable of being shaped to fit the contours of the canals without breaking or bending.

b. At the same time, they should be strong enough not to collapse during insertion and take away from the canal.

c. Flexibility and strength are essential in negotiating through the canal as well as removing any excess moisture from it without injuring surrounding tissues.

Biocompatibility:

a. Paper points have to be made biocompatible such that this doesn’t cause irritation or any other adverse effects on patients using them within root canals.

b. Biocompatibility ensures that periapical tissue is healthy, which aids in successful healing after root canal treatment.

Quality Assurance:

a. Absorbent paper points need to undergo a stringent quality control process so as to ensure consistency, dependability and safety in their use.

b. Such measures will guarantee that manufacturers adhere to industry regulations, such as ISO certification when determining their products’ quality and performance.

c. Quality assurance assures dentists about using absorbent paper points effectively and reliably in clinical practice.

Summary –  Dental products and equipment advanced by brands like Dental Avenue India Pvt Ltd have revolutionized dental care, which is now possible at the fingertips of one’s hand. They meet the needs of different dental procedures, ensuring dentists have the tools necessary to provide better treatments, leading to healthier smiles and enhanced well-being.
