The self-made entrepreneur and philanthropist posthumously recognized for his outstanding contribution to society.


New Delhi: Late Shri Jai Karan Sharma, Founder Chetak Group, was bestowed with the “Lifetime Achievement Award” as Social Impact Award, held in Gurgaon. On behalf of Shri Jai Karan Sharma, the Award was received by his Sons and Directors Chetak Group, Mukesh Haritash, Rajesh Haritash and Sachin JKS haritash, in the presence of P S Gahlaut, the mentor and a close friend of Jai Karan Sharma, at a glittering ceremony held in Hotel Hyatt, Gurgaon.

During the daylong event attended by a slew of corporates and NGOs, Mukesh Haritash, Director of Chetak Logistics, delivered a Note Address, and Arun Arora, Head and Director of Chetak Foundation, participated in a discussion on diverse interventions that lead to social impact, bring in parity and inclusive growth. The event also witnessed the felicitation of various social and not-for-profit organizations.

Addressing the gathering as a Keynote Speaker, Mukesh Haritash, Director Chetak Logistics, said, “I, along with my brothers and our uncle Shri P S Gahlaut ji, are humbled to represent our father, Late Shri Jai Karan Sharma. It is only fitting our father is being honoured with the “Lifetime Achievement Award” as part of the Social Impact Awards by Indian CSR Awards for his selfless service to society. We are grateful to Brand Honcho for this recognition, which will inspire us to work even harder to carry his values and legacy forward.”

Jai Karan Sharma was the son of a farmer from a small village Jhinjhar, in Haryana. He started from scratch and went on to set up the Chetak Group and created a new benchmark in automobile logistics in India, bringing the logistics sector to the mainstream.

He was a business statesman and a pioneer who brought innovation and the latest technologies to the logistics sector. As a business leader, for many, he remains an icon and a model to follow.

Jai Karan Sharma created livelihood opportunities for thousands of people and was known for his passion for helping underprivileged people in society. He made an exemplary contribution to the education sector by supporting schools and colleges’ infrastructure development for economically weaker children. This recognition is a vindication of his selfless service to society.

Jai Karan Sharma was acclaimed as the leading entrepreneur of the 20th century and was commended for his dynamic, path-breaking and innovative genius. He was an inspirational leader, and his success sparked the imagination of a generation of progressive Indian entrepreneurs and businesses.

His vision was to redefine the rules in the Indian Transport Industry by providing the best and path-finding solutions with the flexibility to adapt new practices, policies, and technology to meet the customers’ requirements. He took pride in inducting India’s top automobile companies among the Group’s clients, including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Ford, JCB and many more.

Many national and international organizations have recognized his contributions to the nation’s social and economic development.

He was awarded the “Transport Rattan” by AIMTC, the “Rastriya Udyog Rattan” Award by LOBRD, and the “Outstanding National Citizen” Award by NSG. He was bestowed with the title of “Transport Samrat” by AIMTC and the Udyog Rattan Award by the Institute of Economic Studies.

The recognition did not stop, even as he left for his heavenly abode in October 2020.

Alden Global declared him the “Logistics Man of India’, in 2021 for his outstanding contribution to the Logistics sector and the industry.

The Indian Postal Department issued a stamp to honour Jai Karan Sharma ji for contributing to social development and helping the underprivileged. The stamp was released by Hon’ble Union Minister for Tourism & Culture Shri Kishan Reddy ji last year.

His dream lives on through the Chetak Foundation, a social arm of Chetak Group, set up by his family as a tribute to him and his vision of making a positive impact on the lives of underprivileged communities.

Inspired by Jai Karan Sharma, Chetak Foundation also believes in empowering society through education and has thus announced the setting up of the Jai-Krishna Logistics Awards and Jai-Krishna Scholarship (named after our parents) for underprivileged and deserving students.

Established in 1979, Chetak Group takes pride in its long-range strategy of providing comprehensive logistics solutions to its customers. Equipped with its own 20 Lakh sq. ft modern warehousing facilities across India, the Group provides Total Supply Chain Solutions, including Transportation Services through all modes, Warehousing & Distribution, International Freight Forwarding, Customs Clearance & Logistics Services.

The Group, located in Delhi, the national capital, has 60 offices and branches spread across India at major industrial hubs to provide effective solutions to its customers.
