Kineer has been working towards the mainstreaming and upliftment of the marginalised transgender community in India. Kineer is led by renowned transgender rights activist Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, who also represents the community at the UN. A brief about its journey so far:
Below mentioned are a few initiatives by Kineer:
Trans-formation is an initiative for skill building, training and placement of the members with inclusive companies. The system works more on reverse integration wherein firstly jobs are identified with MNCs, JDs formulated and then training begins for the community members who match the recruitment criteria. The trainings are done at no charge for the members with assistance from the CSR funding of likeminded companies. Over 450 members have been trained and placed under Trans-formation and it is working on closing another 1580 openings identified for the community. A vacancies list for transgender community of its partner Flipkart is attached within.
Free vaccination for the entire community across India has been initiated under this project in association with Serum India and Apollo Hospitals. Also, medical and health checkup camps are organised under this initiative.
The community has been affected very badly due to the pandemic as all possible sources of income were shut because of Covid-19. Practices such as begging, and sex work had also stopped. During this period Kineer initiated the Forgotten Families ration kits assistance drive. It has assisted over 4.5 lakh members with rations kits across the country and has been showcased as Bharat kay Mahaveer by the discovery channel.
In an attempt to create dignified employment, Kineer has launched Kineer packaged water wherein the factories are manned and managed by the members of the community. The water is available in B2B segment at present, and it boasts of prestigious clients such as – Vistara Airlines, Lalit Hotels, Barclays Bank, Sodexo, JLL, HCL, Serum Institute and many others.
The initiative aims at nurturing transgender artists talent and showcasing it on prestigious platforms. It supports the transgender artists who are struggling to make a livelihood and are on the verge of giving up their talent to enter the only source of income – begging and kin trade.
Kineer has also initiated drives for providing wedding assistance to the brides to be who are facing financial difficulties. Over 58 girls have been assisted till date. Apart from these Kineer also works very closely with the orphanages of Padma Shri Sindhu Tai Sapkal and has managed the renovations for the ashrams.
