NEW DELHI (India CSR): Jindal Panther Cement (JPC), a subsidiary of the Jindal Group, has officially commissioned its first cement grinding unit in Angul, Odisha, with a capacity of 1.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). This facility marks a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to sustainable and low-carbon cement production.
Advancing Low-Carbon Goals
The newly established Angul Grinding Unit is designed to operate at the industry’s lowest clinker factor, which is integral to JPC’s decarbonisation strategy. By utilizing approximately 1 MTPA of blast furnace slag sourced from JSPL’s nearby integrated steel plant, the unit aims to produce high-quality Portland Slag and Composite Cement. This innovative approach not only reduces emissions but also promotes sustainable practices within the cement industry.
Integrated Distribution Model
In a bid to streamline operations, JPC will collaborate with the JSPL team for the distribution of cement and steel. This integrated approach aims to position JPC as Eastern India’s first one-stop shop for homebuilders. By marketing cement and JSPL’s rebar under the ‘Jindal Panther’ brand umbrella, the company simplifies procurement processes for individual housebuilders (IHBs) while ensuring quality and competitive pricing.
Future Growth and Expansion Plans
Looking ahead, JPC plans to ramp up production capacity at both the Angul and Raigarh units to a total of 7 MTPA, backed by an investment of INR 2,160 crore. This expansion is set to enhance the company’s footprint in the cement sector and meet the increasing infrastructure demands in the region.
Rohit Vohra, CEO of JPC, commented on this achievement, stating, “The commissioning of our Angul Grinding Unit marks a significant step in our journey towards a sustainable future. Our low-carbon cement and innovative distribution model position us uniquely to support Eastern India’s infrastructure growth while contributing to a greener planet.”
With this new facility, Jindal Panther Cement is poised to play a pivotal role in fostering sustainable development in the construction industry.
