Gurgaon (NCT of Delhi): Jai Karan Sharma, Founder Chairman, Chetak Group was conferred with the title of “MAN OF LOGISTICS” at the CargoNXT Conference and Recognitions organized by Cargo Insights. He was honoured with a Posthumous “Outstanding Leader” Award at the prestigious event organized in strategic partnership with Gurugram Industrial Expo 2023. The Award was given by Om Prakash Sharma Director of Economic Regulations, Ministry of Civil Aviation,  Government of India.

On behalf of the late Jai Karan Sharma, the award was received by his sons Mukesh Haritash, Rajesh Haritash and Sachin JKS haritasH, Directors, Chetak Logistics. Arun Arora, Director and Head, Chetak Foundation. Also present on the occasion were J K Sharma from Chetak Logistics, Madhurendra Sinha, Advisory Board Member Chetak Foundation, Jitin Sahni, Chief Editor Cargo Insights and Yogita Bhurani, CCO, of Cargo Insights.

Notable Attendees at the Ceremony

Speaking on the occasion Jitin Sahni, Chief Editor, Cargo Insights said, “We are proud to honour Jai Karan Sharma ji with the title of “Man of Logistics” and an ‘Outstanding Leader’ award for his exemplary and pioneering work, exceptional contributions & outstanding accomplishments in Logistics. We salute his passion and contribution to the socio-economic development of the nation. My wishes to his family for carrying his inspiring legacy forward.”

CargoNXT Conference & Recognition is endorsed amongst the Ministries, trade and supported by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Federation of Freight Forwarders Association in India (FFFAI), Association of Multimodal Transport Operators Of India (AMTOI), Air Cargo Agent Association of India (ACAAI), Warehousing Association of India (WAI), Air Cargo Club of Delhi and Logistics Club of Bengaluru.

Mukesh Haritash, Director of Chetak Logistics and eldest son of Jai Karan Sharma said, “On behalf of our father, I along with my brothers Rajesh and Sachin, am humbled to receive The Man of Logistics and an Outstanding Leader Award at such a prestigious Industry Forum. Our father was our inspiration. We were witness to his entrepreneurial journey, his passion, tribulations and his triumphs. He was our Guru and we aspire to follow in his footsteps. We thank Cargo Insights and the entire Logistics and Cargo Industry for bestowing this honour upon our father. We commit to work hard and take our father’s legacy forward and aim to take Chetak Group to even greater heights.”

Mukesh Haritash’s Pledge

The event also witnessed an enriching panel discussion on ‘Optimising Supply Chain Operations in India,’ moderated by S. Ramakrishna, MD, Balaji Mariline. Sachin JKS haritasH Director Chetak Logistics shared his perspective on the theme, in the presence of renowned fellow panellists from the Logistics and Cargo Industry.

Jai Karan Sharma, the son of a farmer, hailing from Jhinjhar, a small village in Haryana was a self-made entrepreneur who started from scratch and went on to build the Chetak Group, one of the leaders in Logistics, in India. His success sparked the imagination of a generation of progressive Indian entrepreneurs. He was a business statesman and visionary who introduced, what is now called Integrated Logistics solutions with multi-modal transportation, warehousing, packaging and just-in-time solutions, and way back in the 1980s.

Jai Karan Sharma’s Entrepreneurial Journey

He stood for inclusive growth. He supported numerous potential entrepreneurs in setting up their own transport companies. He created livelihood opportunities for thousands of people. He had a passion for helping underprivileged people of the society. He contributed to the education sector by supporting the infrastructure development of schools and colleges for economically weaker children.

Sharma’s Commitment to Social Impact

Sharma’s contributions to the social and economic development of society at large have been numerously recognised by many national and international organisations. In the past he was awarded the “Transport Rattan” the “Rashtriya Udyog Ratan” Award, “Outstanding National Citizen” and he was also bestowed with the title of “Transport Samraat” and the “Udyog Rattan” Award by Institute of Economic Studies.

Posthumous Honors for Jai Karan Sharma

He left for his heavenly abode in October 2020. Posthumously, the Logistics Industry bestowed him the title of “The Logistics man of India” in 2021. G. Kishan Reddy, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Culture and Development of North-Eastern Region, released a postal Stamp issued by the Indian Postal Department to honour and recognise Sharma’s contribution to the nation’s socio-economic development, in 2022. He was also honoured with the “Life Time Achievement Award” at the Social Impact Award in Jan 2023. Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister for Road Transport and Highways, released a biographical book capturing the life journey of Sharma in February 2023.

Legacy Through Chetak Foundation

His dream lives on, through the Chetak Foundation, a social arm of Chetak Group, set up by Smt. Krishna Sharma, his wife and their sons, as a tribute to its founder Late Jai Karan Sharma’s vision of making a positive impact on the lives of underprivileged communities. The Foundation is focussing on various areas including Education, Environment, Health, Livelihood, Nutrition and Road Safety.
