Chennai: Indian Oil’s Southern Pipelines (SRPL) organised an awareness campaign for menstrual hygiene of women. This campaign was conducted in 12 anganwadis or rural child care centres in Trichy during Swachhta Pakhwada, which is observed from 1 Jul to 15 Jul.
During the campaign, around 500 young mothers were sensitised on the best practices during menstruation through the Society for Community Organisations and People’s Education (SCOPE), a Trichy based non-government organisation.
A health talk was also organised in which experts like Uma Velmurugan, Gynaecologist, Apollo Hospitals, Trichy, K Meena, former Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University, Trichy and Parimala, Child Development Project Officer provided their inputs to the women participant during the launch of the programme at Chinna Suriyur Anganwadi Centre, Trichy.
K Meena released a pamphlet on nutrition and menstrual hygiene management during the programme whereas S S Chourasia, DGM (Const.) SRPL, Trichy distributed hygiene kits. The programme created awareness among the women and enhanced their knowledge about the importance of personal hygiene, usage, and disposal of sanitary napkins and solid waste management at homes to keep the surroundings neat and clean.
The participants were also provided with 1000 blue and green dustbins. They were also taught about the use and segregation of two different kinds of wastes. Additionally, an awareness session on nutrition and food intake for children as well as women was conducted during the programme.
