Ever felt that magical pull when you find a crystal that seems to just belong with you?

It might be a gentle hum in your hand, a feeling of peace, or just a deep visual attraction. This personal connection is the heart of crystal healing—it is the very essence of “Oorja,” or life-force energy.

But what happens when that connection, and the money you spent, is based on a lie?

The crystal market has grown, and unfortunately, it is now filled with fakes. Cleverly made glass, dyed stones, and synthetic resins are often sold as genuine, high-vibration gemstones. For anyone on a healing journey, finding out their prized Amethyst is just coloured glass can be deeply disappointing.

At World of Oorja, our entire philosophy is built on authenticity. We believe that to truly connect with a crystal’s energy, it must be real. Because we handle genuine, ethically-sourced crystals every single day, we’ve learned how to spot the fakes from a mile away.

We want to share our insider tips with you, so you can shop with confidence, whether it’s with us or at a local market.

Why Does Authenticity Really Matter?

First, let’s be clear. If you buy a beautiful piece of coloured glass simply because you love how it looks, that’s wonderful! Beauty has its own value.

But if you are seeking a crystal for its healing properties—its “Oorja”—then authenticity is everything.

A real crystal, like a Clear Quartz or a Rose Quartz, was formed deep inside the Earth over millions of years. It holds a stable, unique vibration and the ancient history of our planet. This is the energy we connect with. A fake, man-made piece simply does not have this. It’s like the difference between a fresh, organic mango and a plastic one. One nourishes you, the other just looks the part.

Simple Ways to Spot a Fake

Your first check happens before you even touch the stone. Use your eyes and your common sense.

1. The “Too Perfect” Problem

Nature is beautiful, but it is rarely flawless. Real crystals have character. They have small internal cracks, lines, or cloudy patches called inclusions. These are like the stone’s fingerprints. Fakes made of glass are often too perfect, with flawless clarity.

2. The “Too Good to Be True” Price

Real crystals take time and effort to mine, clean, and transport. If you see a massive, perfectly clear Citrine sphere for a very low price, be suspicious. Genuine, high-quality crystals hold value.

Common Fakes and How to Identify Them

Let’s get practical. These are the fakes you will see most often.

Let’s get practical. These are the fakes you will see most often.

Fake: Glass

  • Often Sold As: Clear Quartz, Rose Quartz, Amethyst, and Citrine.
  • How to Spot: Look very closely at the stone, using a magnifying glass if you can. The number one sign of glass is tiny, perfectly round air bubbles trapped inside.
  • Real vs. Fake: Real Quartz does not have air bubbles. Its inclusions look like tiny fractures, wisps, or specks—not perfect circles.

Fake: “Baked” or Heat-Treated Crystals

  • Often Sold As: Citrine.
  • How to Spot: This is the most common fake citrine. It is actually lower-grade Amethyst that has been baked at high temperatures. This heat treatment turns the purple into a toasty, often dark orange or brownish-yellow. Look for a very white, chalky base and a “burnt” orange colour on the tips.
  • Real vs. Fake: Real, natural Citrine is much rarer. Its colour is typically a more uniform, pale, honey, or smoky yellow, and it is usually transparent. It does not have the “burnt” look or the stark white base.

Fake: Dyed Stones

  • Often Sold As: Vibrant Rose Quartz or unnaturally deep “Amethyst.”
  • How to Spot: The colour looks unnatural and “electric”—a “marker-pen” kind of colour that is too uniform. Look for cracks on the stone’s surface. On a dyed stone, you will often see the dye collecting in these cracks, making them look much darker than the rest of the stone.
  • Real vs. Fake: Real Rose Quartz has a soft, gentle, often milky pink hue. Real Amethyst’s colour, while it can be deep, is natural and often has “zoning” (patches of lighter and darker purple), but it won’t look “painted on.”

The Temperature Test: An Easy Check

This is one of our favourite simple tests. Real crystals are dense and stay cool.

  • The Test: Pick up the crystal and place it against your cheek or wrist.
  • The Result: A real crystal (especially Quartz) will feel surprisingly cool to the touch, even in a warm room. Glass and plastic will feel closer to room temperature and will warm up in your hand very quickly.

The Best Tip: Trust Your Source

We know this is a lot to remember. You can’t carry a magnifying glass everywhere you shop. It can be stressful, and that’s the last feeling you want when buying something for healing.

The single most important way to ensure you are buying real crystals is to trust your seller.

A passionate, honest seller will be transparent. They will be happy to tell you where their crystals come from. They will talk about “sourcing,” “quality,” and “authenticity” with confidence.

At World of Oorja, we are obsessed with this. We know that trust is everything. That is why we are so proud to introduce The Oorja Standard.

The Oorja Standard is our formal promise to you. It’s our commitment to ensure that every single crystal we offer is 100% authentic, natural, and ethically sourced. We have built relationships with suppliers who guarantee their stones are real. We personally vet every crystal that comes through our doors.

We created The Oorja Standard to take the guesswork and anxiety out of buying crystals. When you shop with us, you don’t need to worry about bubbles or dye. You can simply focus on what matters: finding the crystal that speaks to your Oorja.

Your healing journey is personal and important. Don’t let the fear of fakes stop you. Be curious, ask questions, and trust your intuition. And when in doubt, always choose a source that guarantees its quality, just as we do.

Ready to explore with confidence? Discover our collection of genuine, high-vibration crystals, all backed by The Oorja Standard.
