NEW DELHI: Honda Motor India Pvt. Ltd. (HMI) on Feb 26, 2012 announced the winners of fourth Young Engineers and Scientists’ (YES) awards in India and presented awards to fourteen students from India’s premier institutes for science & technology – Indian Institute of Technology.
The Chief Guest, Dr. K. Kasturirangan, Member, Planning Commission, Government of India, presented the awards to the students in recognition of their outstanding performance in Academics.
Also present on the occasion were Dr. Gagan Pratap, Director, National Institute of Science Communication & Information Resources, who is also the chief assessor this year; Mr.Tatsuya Natsume, Director, Marketing, Honda Siel Cars India and Mr. Jnaneswar Sen, Vice President, Marketing, Honda Siel Cars India.
The YES Award initiative of Honda Foundation has been facilitated by Honda Motor India Pvt. Ltd., to foster young students who have excelled in the area of science and technology and continue to aspire for higher academic achievement in the area of Eco-Technology. Through this initiative, Honda Foundation will grant financial aid to the winning students and also give them an opportunity to pursue trainings or higher professional education, in Japan.
A cash scholarship of US $3000, was presented to fourteen students selected from seven IITs – Delhi, Bombay, Roorkee, Madras, Kharagpur, Kanpur & Guwahati on the basis of their Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), technical papers, essays and finally their performance in the one-on-one interviews. All the YES Award recipients may claim $ 7,000/- for 2 months Summer Training in Japan or ‘Yes Award Plus’ scholarship of US$10,000 if they are admitted to, and join postgraduate (master or doctoral) study in the designated Japanese universities, within three years of having received the YES Award.
Talking about YES Awards, Tatsuya Natsume, Director, Marketing, Honda Siel Cars India Ltd. said, “This is the fourth year since Honda started the YES Awards program in India and we are very happy to see the enthusiastic response from students of the affiliated IITs. It is an honor to team up with such a prestigious institute and continue our efforts to support and encourage the young engineers and scientists in the country”.

The YES Award in India program is designed to strengthen Japanese ties with India through provision of financial aid to young Indian researchers and engineers to encourage specialized study in eco-technology as well as provide an opportunity to acquire higher professional education in Japan. It is in line with Honda Foundation’s attempt for an environmentally balanced development of the industrial and science based civilization encouraging specialized study in eco-technology.
