NEW DELHI (India CSR): Hindustan Zinc Limited, the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, champions sustainable zinc solutions by representing India at the 13th Asia Pacific General Galvanizing Conference, hosted by the Galvanizers Association of Malaysia. Held from June 23rd to 26th at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, the premier event provides a strategic platform for companies to highlight their global capabilities.
At Booth No. 10, Hindustan Zinc’s pavilion features an immersive 3D augmented reality experience, offering international delegates a firsthand view of its advanced, technology-driven operations. The company also led a thought leadership session titled ‘Galvanizing Industries: Current Scenario and Impact’, which brought together global leaders, corrosion specialists and policymakers to discuss zinc’s evolving role in building sustainable infrastructure.
Arun Misra, CEO – Hindustan Zinc, said, “As the world moves towards cleaner energy systems, the importance of zinc is rising at an unprecedented rate. We are proud to present our integrated operations at this global forum. With Southeast Asia’s rapid growth, ensuring a reliable supply of top-quality zinc is a strategic priority. Through our participation, we are advancing the ‘Make in India, for the World’ vision, positioning Indian manufacturing as globally competitive, trusted and future ready.”

Zinc plays a crucial role in galvanization, protecting steel from corrosion and supporting key sectors including infrastructure, automotive, renewable energy, electronics, defence, high-tech manufacturing and electric mobility. Galvanization is the most effective method for safeguarding steel structures. It involves applying a zinc coating that forms a metallurgical bond with steel, providing long-lasting protection. Zinc sacrifices itself in place of the underlying steel, shielding it from rust and significantly extending the lifespan of structures. This is especially critical in coastal regions, where high humidity, salt and moisture accelerate corrosion and compromise structural integrity.
For South Asian nations such as India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Sri Lanka, where vast coastlines and tropical climates expose infrastructure to salt-laden air, galvanization is not just recommended, it is essential. Corrosion poses a significant economic burden in the region. India, with its 7,800-kilometre-long coastline, faces similar corrosion challenges that cost the economy nearly 5 percent of its GDP each year, amounting to over 100 billion dollars in preventable losses. By adopting zinc-based galvanizing solutions, countries can extend the lifespan of critical infrastructure, reduce maintenance costs and redirect valuable resources toward other priority areas of development. India’s leadership in zinc production reinforces the region’s ability to combat corrosion effectively while supporting long-term economic and structural resilience in these development nations.
Hindustan Zinc offers one of the world’s largest zinc product portfolios, supplying over 40 countries with a strong focus on customer innovation. The company’s Customer Technical Services team and Centre of Excellence collaborate closely with customers to meet their specific needs.
