Oil and Refineries sector companies are the biggest CSR spending companies in Gujarat.

AHMEDABAD: ‘Gujarat CSR Meetup’ was organised on 16 Feb 2017 at Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA). It was attended by CSR heads/Managers, Government agencies, Implementing agencies and social enterprises.
The event started with the launch of Gujarat CSR outlook Report-2017. The report highlighted the CSR projects and programmes of FY 2015-16 in Gujarat with detail analysis of CSR spent, thematic spent and implementing model. It also showcased few case studies of flagship CSR projects in Gujarat.
“Out of the 160 companies included in the study, 17 were PSU. The total CSR spend by these (160) companies in Gujarat alone is Rs 375.66 Cr. As per the national study done by NGOBOX, Gujarat get 5.2% of total CSR spend of India. The major share in the total CSR spend came from Oil, drilling & refinery and Engineering sectors. Pharmaceuticals did not lag much behind”, report said.
Amongst corporates, Reliance Industries Ltd. made the highest contribution of Rs 24.58 Cr towards its various CSR initiatives in Gujarat, followed by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone,which spent Rs 23.46 Cr in total.
The report also showcased the top 3 companies in each sectors, according to their CSR spend in Gujarat. The favourite Theme of the CSRs was found to be education and skilling followed by Poverty Alleviation, Healthcare and WASH.
The event was addressed by dignitaries P.K. Laheri, the former Chief Secretary of Government of Gujarat as the Chief Guest for the event and Padma Shri Kartikeya Sarabhai, Director, CEE as the Guest of Honour.
CSR heads shared their CSR experiences with the gathering, including Rishi Pathania, Head CSR- UPL Ltd who delivered the keynote address and Sushama Oza, Director, Adani Foundation.
Followed by the discussion on ‘better education through CSR’, led by Ketan Vyas, CEO SchoolsLENS, the participants attended the technology session based on ‘Cloud Based Solutions for Development Projects’, taken by Anil Singaraju, Chief technology officer, Diona.
Another attraction of the event was a panel discussion where the panellists shared their ideas and understanding on ‘’Development challenges in Gujarat, setting up CSR priorities and scope for collaborations”. The panel included experienced CSR leaders Archana Joshi; Director, Deepak Foundation, Uday Desai; Head CSR, EInfochips, Haresh Trivedi; Head-CSR, GHCL, Jitendra; Community Development Officer, BOSCH India Foundation, Alpa Patel, Manager-CSR, L&T Hazira and Indu Capoor, Founder Director, CHETNA.
