BENGALURU (India CSR): In a significant step towards fostering innovation and technical education, the GE Aerospace Foundation has announced the expansion of its flagship Next Engineers program to Bengaluru, India. This initiative aims to inspire and prepare young students to explore careers in engineering, strengthening the pipeline of future innovators in India.
With a strong legacy in STEM education and industry-academia collaborations, the foundation’s expansion into India reflects GE Aerospace’s commitment to uplifting communities and empowering the next generation of engineers.
Building the Future of Engineering in India
The Next Engineers program is designed to equip students with critical skills, mentorship, and hands-on experience to navigate the path from middle school to college and into engineering careers. The expansion into Bengaluru aligns with India’s growing demand for skilled engineers and advanced technological expertise.
As part of the rollout, GE Aerospace Foundation will collaborate with a local academic partner, which is expected to be finalized by late 2025. The program will offer career workshops, engineering challenges, and mentoring sessions, ensuring students receive early exposure to real-world engineering concepts.
A Legacy of Engineering Excellence
Bengaluru was selected for the Next Engineers program based on multiple factors, including:
- Strong GE Aerospace presence – Bengaluru houses one of GE Aerospace’s largest engineering and manufacturing hubs in India.
- Existing engagement with academia – GE Aerospace has a 25-year history of technological collaboration with educational institutions in India.
- Community impact – The company has a longstanding commitment to STEM education, supporting initiatives that spark curiosity and innovation among students.
Alok Nanda, Chief Technology Officer at GE Aerospace’s India Technology Centre, emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent:
“GE Aerospace in India has always been at the forefront of developing new technologies in collaboration with academia. Expanding the Next Engineers program locally will give students a platform to explore their passion for engineering and gain real-world insights into the industry.”
A Global Initiative with a Local Impact
The Next Engineers program has already inspired nearly 22,000 students worldwide, helping them build confidence and skills in engineering. With its expansion into Bengaluru, GE Aerospace aims to reach thousands of students across India, creating new opportunities in STEM education and workforce development.
Meghan Thurlow, President of GE Aerospace Foundation, expressed excitement about the program’s expansion:
“We are immensely proud to bring the Next Engineers program to Bengaluru. Our volunteers and leadership team are eager to engage with students, helping them discover the power and potential of engineering. This initiative reflects our commitment to shaping the future of aerospace innovation globally.”
Investing in the Engineers of Tomorrow
In 2024, GE Aerospace Foundation committed $20 million through 2030 to expand Next Engineers, ensuring continuous investment in young talent. Currently, the program operates in:
- Cincinnati, Ohio, and Greenville, South Carolina (United States)
- Johannesburg (South Africa)
- Staffordshire (United Kingdom)
- Warsaw (Poland)
By adding Bengaluru, India, to its global footprint, GE Aerospace is reinforcing its dedication to equipping students with the knowledge, resources, and mentorship needed to pursue impactful careers in engineering.
