ANGUL: The employees of Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL), Angul (Odisha), and their families enjoyed a week-long sports and musical extravaganza that concluded on Saturday with the grand finale of the football tournament along with a slew of cultural pogrammes.
‘Jindal Futsal Fives 2012’ was kicked off September 29 and ended on October 6 which witnessed events including football tourney, one-hand push up for males and kids, sprint, sack and three-leg race for children, besides cultural programmes including Bhangra, DJ Night, “Ittefaq” The Rock Show, mimicry etc.
In total, 16 teams participated in the soccer tournament, of which Ball Busters (HR team) and Gladiators (Security team) reached the finale, and the latter won the match in a nail biting finish through penalty shootout by 4-3 goals to romp home the trophy. The winners’ and runners up teams were awarded with cash prize Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively. There was also a friendly match among the girls, in which JSPL Security Girls won the match by defeating JSPL Girls led by CSR Department. The winners’ team was given a token cash prize of Rs 2000 and runners up team with Rs 1000.
Gracing the event as Chief Guest, Mr Dinesh Kumar Saraogi, Executive Director, JSPL, said, “It feels really great to watch such sporting events here, which need to be regularly organised for fun, recreation as well as fitness-inducement of our employees.” On women employees playing football, he said, “These girls need to be lauded, as after working the whole day in office and without having any practice, the way they took on the lady security guards team and displayed their sporting spirit is really praiseworthy.”
On the occasion, Mr Saraogi also dedicated the Garden field exclusively to sports coining it as ‘Sports Arena’ and said it would help enhance the sporting spirit among our staff.
Mrs Sujata Saraogi, President, Jindal Mahila Samiti, also appreciated the JOC Sports Committee for organising such great sporting event, and said more and more girls should come forward to participate in such events.
On the opening day, cultural programmes including fusion dance and dance by women security personnel were held. Likewise, on the closing ceremony, Karate show, thrilling musical extravaganza including DJ Night and Bhangra, choreographed by Ms. Disha Singh from HR Dept and “Ittefaq” the Rock Band of JSPL rocked by Capt Tarun Ghanghas, mesmerised the audiences.
Also among the kids competitors, 36 of them were awarded with gold medals and gifts.
This biggest sporting event held for the first time at JSPL was organised by JOC Sports Committee under the able guidance of its Sports Secretary Captain Ajit Singh, Chief, Security department, JSPL.
