The fast-growing postmodern world is becoming more and more attached to the online world, especially more so with the pandemic. This has affected everything in our lives, even the way we play games. Many people believe that sports betting and esports betting are opposed to each other. Sports betting and esports betting both have similarities as well as a host of differences. The way traditional sports were betted on also inspired the idea of esports betting. Recently, there has been a significant boom in esports betting, with many people embracing esports due to the various restrictions imposed on traditional sports.

Many youngsters and millennials are reaching out to esports betting recently. The growth is ever-expanding. With the number of sports on offer, betting apps in India have also grown drastically to reach out to its significant population.

What is Sports Betting?

The objective of Sports betting is to predict the results of a game and place a wager on the outcome. Sports betting has been around for a long time, stretching way back into human history. This is also why many people are acquainted with the idea of betting in sports. Bets may be placed on almost any sport to the most obscure one.

What is Esports betting?

Esports is organized professional online gaming. Esports betting is where a person wagers on a game with a plethora of site choices where data and statistics are provided to make an informed selection. It refers to the sports competition using video games. There are not many external variables that will disturb the game.

Many fans take part in esports betting, which is another element of thrill and enjoyment. Online audiences can place bets with bookies as well. Bettors watch their game and place their bets via various bookmakers. Popular games which have turned into competitions are Call of Duty, Counter-Strike, League of Legends, Dota 2, which are just a few. These esports events are watched by millions of fans across the globe online.

Differences between the two

  • Esports and traditional sports are played very differently. One is played virtually in event centers while the other is played physically. Betting on esports can take place anywhere at any time.
  • Most traditional sports don’t have a match system and are instead decided by a single game. Esports, in contrast, are decided by a match.
  • Esports betting, in contrast to traditional sports betting, comes with a bit of a learning curve. There are always newer experiences.
  • Esports betting relies more on luck, while in traditional sports, the team performing well wins almost all the time. Win rates in esports betting are more random, while the winning percentage is not so unexpected in sports betting.
  • In traditional sports, there is always the possibility of faulty human interactions, while in esports, everything is digitized with all the games and matches played on computers.
  • Esport requires an update from time to time that triggers complexity, while traditional sports games are not highly triggered. In other words, it remains traditional.

Similarities

  • Both are structured similarly. One can bet on games, series, and whole tournaments.
  • Both require strategy and careful planning. Games have coaches because of the level of strategy involved.
  • There is an abundance of esports and sports betting sites.
  • Both the industries are enhanced with technological advancements, such as in-depth stats for esports and sports bettors.
  • Both real sport and esport, have a duration for playing.
  • In both sports, it is essential to do proper research of the team and their players before placing bets. Knowing the previous stats of the player or team is crucial in determining if you can place your bet on them or not.

Conclusion

Traditional sports and esports are mainly for entertainment and enjoyment, but sometimes, you can also earn a living participating or even playing in it. Traditional sports have roots that penetrate deep into all generations, and everyone can get entertained by them. Esport requires the internet and is only a modern development. It can be said that esports betting is the modernized version of traditional sports betting. Traditional sports betting has a long history, while esports betting is a more modern development. As mentioned above, there are several similarities and differences between the two. Many see sports as a way to de-stress and to enjoy, however for the more competitive individuals, betting in sports is also a serious way of life, perhaps even their main source of income. These people don’t want to leave things to chance and strive to be rewarded for their commitment.

Betting apps in India are also gaining popularity and have seen tremendous growth due to the pandemic. It is believed that betting accounts for between 30 and 40% of the global gambling market, which includes both esports and sports betting.
