Ericsson Graces Again: Global Recognition for Sustainability Leadership

NEW DELHI (India CSR): Ericsson, the global telecommunications giant, has cemented its position as a champion of sustainability, securing a coveted spot on the 2024 Corporate Knights Global 100. This annual list, compiled by the research arm of a Canadian media organization, identifies the top 100 most sustainably-managed corporations in the world, offering a crucial benchmark for responsible business practices.

Leading the Way in Sustainable Excellence

Since 2005, the Global 100 has served as a beacon of corporate responsibility, rigorously evaluating listed companies across a multitude of publicly available data points and key performance indicators. These include factors like information readily available on company websites, annual and sustainability reports, executive and board member diversity, sustainable revenue streams, responsible investment initiatives, and carbon productivity.

This year, the competition was fiercer than ever, with 6,733 companies from various industries vying for a spot on the prestigious list. Yet, Ericsson’s unwavering commitment to environmental and social responsibility propelled it once again to the top 100, underscoring its dedication to sustainable business practices.

A Testament to Ericsson’s Values

“This ranking is a powerful validation of our ongoing efforts to integrate sustainability programs and practices throughout our company and value chain,” remarked Heather Johnson, Head of Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility at Ericsson. “We are immensely proud to be recognized once more as one of the world’s 100 most sustainable corporations, and we firmly believe that this recognition translates into significant value for our company, stakeholders, and society as a whole.”

Sustainable Investment: The Future of the Global Economy

According to Toby Heaps, CEO of Corporate Knights, “The Global 100’s consistent outperformance over time hinges on the fact that these companies demonstrate tangible commitment to their green pledges through their investment strategies. Sustainable investment themes, like clean energy, are witnessing exponential growth, and the Global 100, across diverse sectors, are not only driving this growth but also positioning themselves to thrive in the emerging low-carbon economy.”

Ericsson’s Sustainability Trajectory

Ericsson’s inclusion in the Global 100 is a testament to its steadfast commitment to environmental and social responsibility. The company boasts a robust sustainability framework built on three pillars: corporate responsibility, environmental sustainability, and digital inclusion.

Some of Ericsson’s key sustainability initiatives include:

  • Ambitious Net Zero goals: The company aims to achieve Net Zero emissions throughout its entire value chain by 2040, with a 50% reduction by 2030.
  • Sustainable product development: Ericsson prioritizes energy-efficient products and solutions, focusing on reducing the environmental impact of its technology.
  • Empowering communities: The company actively works to bridge the digital divide and empower communities through access to technology, education, and skills development programs.

Ericsson’s continued recognition on the Global 100 serves as a source of inspiration for other corporations to prioritize sustainability within their operations. By embracing eco-conscious practices and aligning their business models with social responsibility, companies like Ericsson are actively shaping a future where economic success goes hand-in-hand with environmental well-being and social progress.
