South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) Bilaspur has completed its saplings plantation target for the financial year 2020-21. SECL plants saplings in Overburden Dump (OB) and plain areas its Mine Lease areas situated in Madhya Pradesh (MP) and Chhattisgarh states.
The sapling works are done through Chhattisgarh Rajya Van Vikas Limited and Madhya Pradesh Rajya Van Vikas Limited, both state government agencies, source said.
The SECL has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with above agencies for forestation work. As per standard, maximum of 3500 saplings per hectare on the OB dump Area and 2500 saplings in plain areas, have been planted.
The planted saplings in Mine Lease areas and other plain areas are of mixed type which includes Herbal, Medicine and Plants like Neem, Karanj, Aamla, Arjun, Ornamental plants such as Gulmohar, Kachnar, Amaltas, Piple etc. fruit bearing trees like Jamun, Imli, Bel, Aam, Seetaful and Timber trees like Teak, Sal and Bamboo. The plantation work is carried out during rainy season for development.
No transparency
SECL Bilaspur has not maintained transparency on budget provision on this programme. The company has not disclosed the amount spent on sapling plantation.
