LANJIGARH (Odisha): An environment-cum-mineral awareness workshop has been organized , jointly by Society of Geoscientists and Allied Technologists (SGAT) and Vedanta Lanjigarh to make local people aware of the need to protect environment from degradation caused by various wrong practices. Environmental cum mineral awareness programme, the workshop took special care to sensitize people about the appropriate measures to improve the status of environment.
Students of 19 leading schools of Kalahandi district participated in the workshop along with the teachers and guardians. Various competitive programs including Quiz, Essay writing and mineral identification were organized for the students. Students were also given a brief presentation on various types of minerals and metals available in the region and their importance towards building a developed nation. Based on performance, Vedanta DAV International School, Govt. SSD High school, Lanjigarh and Town High School, Bhawanipatna were adjudged first, second and third respectively.
Society of Geoscientists and Allied Technologist (SGAT) has been organizing Environment cum Mineral Awareness Programme (EMAP) annually in key mining areas of Odisha for the last 25 years. In Kalahandi district, Vedanta Limited has been partnering the program for last 4 years.
During the session Sujit Mohanty (General Secretary, SGAT), D Rabindranath (Head HSE & Sustainability, Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh), Sunil Singh (Head Projects, Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh) and Amit Goel (Head Commercial, Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh) were present among others to motivate the participating students.
