LANJIGARH: An environment-cum-mineral awareness workshop was organized jointly by Society of Geoscientists and Allied Technologists (SGAT) and Vedanta Ltd., Lanjigarh to awaken keen interest in the young students about various types of minerals deposit in the State.
Titled ENVIRONMENT CUM MINERAL AWARENESS PROGRAMME (EMAP) – 2017, the workshop took special care to sensitize 42 students from different schools by disseminating important information about environment conservation and good industrial practices in Odisha.
Students of 21 leading schools in Kalahandi district participated in the workshop along with teachers and parents.
Various competitive programs including quizzes, essay writing and mineral identification were organized for the students. They were given a brief presentation on various types of minerals and metals available in the region and their importance in our national development. Govt. Girls High School- Bhawanipatna, Saraswati Sishu Vidya mandir – Kesinga and DAV Vedanta International School – Lanjigarh were adjudged first, second and third positions respectively base on their performances.
Society of Geoscientists and Allied Technologist (SGAT) has been organizing Environment cum Mineral Awareness Programme (EMAP) annually in key mining areas of Odisha. In Kalahandi district, Vedanta Limited has been partnering the program since the past 5 years.
During the session Dr. B.M. Faruque, Sr. executive council member -SGAT, Girija BHusan Mohapatra from SGAT, From Vedanta Lanjigarh -Mahendra Raut – Head HR, Manoj Satpathy – Head Legal, B.S. Mund – Head CPP and Amit Goel were present among other dignitaries to motivate the participating students.
The program was anchored by Mihir Malla in coordination with the Environment and Mining departments of Vedanta Lanjigarh unit.
