DHARMA: On the occasion of National Sports Day, Dhamra Port Company Ltd. (DPCL) on Friday presented the ‘Dhamra Port Khel Samman’ to various sports talents of Bhadrak district.
The awardees included both young sports personnel and veteran sports trainers. As many as nine young sports talents of the district who have represented in state, national and international level matches in different sports were conferred the “Dhamra Port Khel Samman” along with four veteran players and sports trainers.
The awards were presented by District Sports Officer Manoj Kumar Das in the presence of Chief Operating Officer (COO) of DPCL Sri Subrat Tripathy and HR head of the company Sri Rajesh Rai at a function organized in the premises of Dhamra Port. The young sports talents who were presented the honour were:
1- Rajeswari Das (14) , an athlete who created world record by running 60 kms at the age of 6 years and won gold medal in state-level and silver medal in national level in 100 meter race
2- Laxmipriya Nayak (17), Sepak Takraw player who represented India in the Sepak Takraw sports and played several state-level and national level matches.
3- Mamuni Mohata (16), Sepak Takraw player from Dhamra area who is a national player in Sepak Takraw.
4- Kanhu Ojha (17), Volleyball player from Dosinga area who have played Volleyball in the state level and won medals taking part in inter-school and inter-district tournaments.
5- Harshit Rathod (15), from Charampa area of Bhadrak who played cricket in the Kalahandi cup and made a record by taking 19 wickets in 5 matches from which 8 wickets he had taken against Kerala. He was also in the under-19 Ranji team
6- Himasmi Swain (14), Tae-kno-do player from Kuansa village who have won 10 times gold medal in state-level and silver medal in national level events.
7- Puspanjali Pradhan (16), Basketball player from Rahandia village, who have played state as well as national level matches.
8- Sashikant Bhoi (22), volley ball player from Tihidi area, who played state and national level.
9- Suvangi Das (14), Badminton player from Bhadrak, who have played in important tournaments and got two times runners’ up in state and national level under-13 matches.
Besides, four veteran sports persons namely, Smt. Sushila Mishra, who had gold medal and participated in many national events in High Jump, Gopal Chandra Mohapatra who had represented India in the Olympics in wresting, Sri Basant Das, state-level volleyball coach and referee and Jatindranath Jena, state coach in running and high jump were felicitated. CSR Head of DPCL Himansu Shekhar Sahoo informed that the idea of presenting “Dhamra Port Khel Samman” was to recognize and felicitate various sports talents within the district. Dhamra Port is committed to develop sports activities and encourage sports talents of Bhadrak district for better achievements, he said.
