NEW DELHI (India CSR): The Delhi government has urged its schools to actively collaborate with NGOs and corporate social responsibility (CSR) entities through the Vidyanjali portal, a flagship initiative by the Union Ministry of Education designed to foster community engagement in schools.
Strengthening NEP 2020 Vision
According to a circular issued by the Directorate of Education (DoE), the move aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes volunteerism, collaboration, and public participation as vital components in transforming India’s education ecosystem.
The DoE noted that NGOs, non-profits, and CSR partners can now officially extend their services to the Delhi government and aided schools through the Vidyanjali platform.
Clear Guidelines and Safeguards
The circular highlights that while schools are encouraged to maximize opportunities under Vidyanjali, they must ensure no personal or sensitive student data is shared with any external partner.
Under the guidelines issued by the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), the “Adopt-a-School” module allows long-term partnerships for resource enhancement, infrastructure support, and quality improvement in education.
The concept note for this module was issued by DoSEL on January 20, 2025, following a high-level meeting chaired by the Economic Adviser of the ministry.
Empowering School Leaders
School principals and heads have been authorized to accept proposals directly from CSR partners through the portal, depending on specific school needs.
Routine activities do not require prior approval from the Directorate, but for major works such as construction of classrooms, toilets, or high-value infrastructure, schools must seek clearance through the e-office system.
Transparent Process for CSR Participation
All CSR proposals must be submitted only via the Vidyanjali portal, with documentation jointly completed by the school and the contributing organization.
The circular further advises that maintenance of assets should ideally be covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. Schools may utilize their Composite School Grant for minor upkeep.
Once approved at the state level, CSR entities may contribute to schools through activities, sponsorships, or tangible assets, ensuring transparency, sustainability, and accountability in implementation.
