Can you provide examples of recent CSR initiatives undertaken by CtrlS Datacenters, and how do these projects contribute to the company’s broader mission of social responsibility?
CtrlSDatacenters underscores thecommitment to corporate social responsibility through accountability to stakeholders, community, and environmental sustainability, while concurrently improving public infrastructure. Our ‘Planet CtrlS’ program aims to make a positive environmental impact, exemplified by our recent initiative to transition the 8MW Noida datacenter to meet 60% of the annual energy needs through solar power, offsetting 94,640 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
Additionally, CtrlS contributes to public infrastructure through projects like extending support to Arignar Anna Zoological Park for infrastructure improvements and conservation efforts over two years.
What motivated CtrlS Datacenters to adopt solar power for 60% of its energy requirements in its 8MW data center in Noida, and how does this initiative align with the company’s broader sustainability objectives?
CtrlSData centers as a goal to adopt 100% renewable energy across all its operations by 2030. The decision to transition its 8MW Noida data center (DC1) to derive 60% of the annual energy needs from solar power is rooted in the company’s steadfast commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon footprint. Through this initiative, CtrlS aims to substantially reduce environmental impact.
This move is part of CtrlS’ broader strategy to embrace renewable energy sources across our datacenter operations. Complementing the company’s solar initiatives, CtrlS is implementing advanced green technologies like water recycling, direct-to-chip cooling, and liquid cooling to further enhance energy efficiency and minimize its environmental impact.
What benefits does renewable energyoffer in terms of environmental impact and operational efficiency for CtrlS?
CtrlS is making significant strides towards environmental sustainability through its investment in renewable energy, particularly solar power. The company is investing in 135-Megawatt Park(MWp) solar projects across three markets, that will generate 2,50,000-Megawatt Hours (MWh) energy annually. This includes a 125 MWp solar project in Maharashtra that will be fully owned and operated by the company. By 2030, CtrlS plans to invest in additional 1,000 MWp projects.
In the case of Noida datacenter, we are utilizing solar power for 60% of our energy needs. This shift translates to a substantial reduction in carbon footprint, which translates to offsetting over 94,640 tonnes of CO2 emissions, which is comparable to planting nearly 189,281 trees.
Also, we are the first datacenter operator in India to wrap the external facade of our Mumbai DC 2 with solar panels, instead of glass. The 1.3 MWp-Solar panel, generates over 1MW of electricity for captive purposes.
By embracing renewable energy sources like solar, CtrlS reduces its dependence on traditional energy grids. Additionally, CtrlS explores advancements in cooling technologies like liquid cooling, which can further enhance energy efficiency by up to 40%. These combined efforts position CtrlS as a leader in sustainable datacenter operations.
