The maximum limit for scholarship amount is 3.5 lakhs per academic year for each student and are given to students with commerce and science backgrounds.
Swades Foundation hosted a scholarship meet at Atlas University Equinox Business Park, Kurla, Mumbai. The main objective of the event was to provide scholarships to underprivileged students for their higher education.
Over 70 Swades Excellence Scholarship students (scholarship for graduation and post-graduation) shared their stories and interacted with the CEO, Mangesh Wange and Founders, Ronnie and Zarina Screwvala. These were students from Raigad, from the batch of 2014 to 2022 who’re currently pursuing their studies or are formally placed in jobs. As it is common in the villages, many of these students would’ve perhaps dropped out of school after class 12 had it not been for the Scholarships. However, today they are qualified Chartered Accountants, Engineers, MBAs and some of them are also placed in jobs abroad.
Swades aims to holistically transform schools, improve infrastructure, provide scholarships and undertake training for principals & teachers. The maximum limit for scholarship amount is 3.5 lakhs per academic year for each student and are given to students with commerce and science backgrounds. In order to be eligible the students should’ve scored over 60 per cent in class 12 and cleared interviews with Swades’s team.
Here are the bio of few beneficiaries
1. DnyaneshwR Dhaigude
Scholarship year – 2105-16
Dnyaneshwar comes from a very humble background in Raigad. His family wouldn’t have been able to support his education had it not been for Swades’ scholarship program.
Today, having completed his course in Mechanical Engineering, Dnyaneshwar is placed in Burns and McDonnel – the first in his family to have broken away from their generational occupation.
2. Ranjeet Raigavali
Ranjeet comes from tribal family and both his parents are involved in paddy farming. The financial constraints of the family were going to force him to abandon education after class 10, had it not been for his teacher, who considering the bright spark that Ranjeet is, ensured that he completed his class 12. From there on, he secured a scholarship for graduation and is now placed in a multinational company.
4.Shrutika Shinde
Shrutika from Raigad’s Mangaon block had always been a sincere and bright student. And even though she had wanted to pursue higher education, she was prepared to abandon higher education due to her parent’s financial constraints. Her father has a government job, while the mother is a homemaker. Taking a loan would mean that her little brother’s education would be compromised – a deal Shrutika would never have wanted to make. Today, Shrutika is a qualified Ayurveda doctor, thanks to Swades’ Excellence Scholarship Program and dreams of opening a clinic in her village in Mangaon someday, and serving the people of her community.
