BENGALURU ( India CSR): In a significant step towards sustainable development and renewable energy adoption, Sembcorp Industries, through its subsidiaries Green Infrastructure Renewable Energy Limited and Yarrow Infrastructure Private Limited, has installed a 60KWp rooftop solar power system at Sri Sathya Sai Karunyaniketanam Gurukul in Tumakuru, Karnataka. This initiative not only supports the environmental goals of the region but also enhances the educational environment for underprivileged children.
Project Overview
Empowering Education with Solar Energy
Sri Sathya Sai Karunyaniketanam Gurukul, operated by Prashanthi Balamandira Trust, educates approximately 450 students on its expansive 48-acre campus. The installation of the rooftop solar power system is a significant milestone, allowing the school to reduce its carbon footprint while providing a reliable and sustainable energy source.
Inauguration Ceremony
The rooftop solar power system was inaugurated on July 11, 2024, by Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai, the founder of the Sri Madhusudan Sai Global Humanitarian Mission. The ceremony was graced by several senior government dignitaries, including Sri T.B. Jayachandra, Karnataka’s Special Representative to Delhi and Sira MLA, and Shri CB Suresh Babu, Chikkanayakanahalli MLA.
Environmental Impact
Reducing Carbon Emissions
The new solar power system enables Sri Sathya Sai Karunyaniketanam Gurukul to avoid over 70,000 kg of CO2 emissions annually. This reduction is equivalent to taking more than 16 cars off the road each year, significantly contributing to the fight against climate change.
