A green drive by planting millions of trees in its premises .

MANSA:  Today, Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL), a Special Purpose Vehicle of Punjab State Electricity Board( PSEB) and Sterlite Energy Limited , the energy arm of Vedanta Resources  for the upcoming Thermal Power Plant, conducted a green drive in its premises, to commemorate the reaching of a major milestone; the erection of its boiler ceiling girder. The organization has decided to plant more than 1 million trees in the 700 acres area in an effort to become one of the most environment friendly corporate houses in Punjab.

India CSRThis green drive was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner of Mansa, Ravinder Singh, in the presence of Vedanta Group Director, Projects, M Siddiqi along with active support and participation of employees, the people and the local Sarpanch from Village Banawala, Raipur, Perron and Bheniwal. Sarpanch Shri Ajit Singh from Banawala, Shri Naranjan Singh from Perron, Shri Malkit Singh from Raipur and Shri Harmel Singh from Bheniwal also planted trees along with Mr. Wang Hang, project Head of Chinese company SEPCO, who is executing the project for the Vedanta Group.

TSPL is committed to protect and preserve the environment through its technology and processes. The plant itself is being constructed with advanced supercritical technology which reduces the consumption of raw material like coal and water putting lesser burden on natural resources unlike in traditional thermal plant technology.

Besides, other environmental protection measures have been adhered to, like, installation of electro static precipitators followed by bag filters to capture particulate matters (dust), provision of a tall chimney for better dispersion of pollutants and concept of zero discharge in which waste water generated is to be utilized in green belt development within the plant premises.

The increased economic activity due to this project shall also generate thousands of direct and indirect employment in the State of Punjab. The success of the project will bolster government initiatives of Public Private Partnership model in key areas of Industrial Development.

The DC of Mansa, Ravinder Singh has thanked TSPL team members as well as the local panchayat for their cordial support to complete the first milestone before schedule. He also said that the plantation drive will change the face of this place which was a barren piece of land some years back.

Speaking on the occasion Mr.M Siddiqi, Director Projects, Vedanta, said “Environment protection has always remained a top priority for Vedanta. We believe that sustainable development is integral to our business practices. Our aim is to preserve a healthy natural environment in and around our operations.”

TSPL has been actively supporting and undertaking proactive measures for environment protection. This massive drive for tree plantation is part of its endeavor to contribute to the conservation of the environment.  :

Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL), a 100% subsidiary of Sterlite Energy Limited (SEL) , the Vedanta Resource Pls , a London Stock Exchange listed FTSE 100 diversified metals and mining major with revenues in excess of USD 7.9 billion will be setting up the largest 1980 (3×660) MW Greenfield Power Project in Punjab, India. TSPL has decided to add one more unit of 660 MW under the Power Generation Policy 2010 of the State of Punjab, to enable it to sell 85% of the power generated as Merchant Power. Thus the capacity of the project will be enhanced to 2640 (4×660) MW.

Vedanta Group is one of the major players in the Power Sector in the country with operating and under projects (CPP and IPP), thermal power capacity of about 10,000 MW. Sterlite Energy limited (SEL), the Power & Energy vertical of the group, is also constructing a 2400(4×600) MW thermal power plant at Jharsuguda in Orissa, the first unit of which is already in operation.
