High Court Seeks CBI’s Response, Hearing Scheduled in Two Weeks
BILASPUR (India CSR), Chhattisgarh: Industrialist Shravan Goyal, Director of Shri Bajrang Power and Ispat Limited, Raipur who is currently in jail in connection with the CG-PSC scam, has filed a bail application in the Chhattisgarh High Court, citing health concerns and the need for medical treatment. Justice B.D. Guru of the High Court has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit its response within two weeks.
Background of the Case
The CG-PSC 2021 recruitment scam came to light after senior BJP leader and former minister Nankiram Kanwar filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court. The PIL alleged that the previous Congress-led government had facilitated the selection of candidates related to political leaders and bureaucrats through fraudulent means. It demanded a CBI investigation and the cancellation of the selection list.
Following the PIL, the High Court sought details of the selected candidates from the state government. In response, the government assured a high-level probe into the matter.
CBI Investigation and Arrests
After the state government announced a CBI investigation, the agency registered a case and initiated a probe. The initial arrests included the then-Chairman of CG-PSC, Taman Sonwani. As the investigation progressed, Shravan Kumar Goyal, Director of Shri Bajrang Power and Ispat Limited, was also arrested for his alleged involvement in the scam.
In addition to Shravan Kumar Goyal, Taman Sonwani’s nephew Sahil Sonwani, Goyal’s son Shashank Goyal, and daughter-in-law Bhoomika Katiyar were also arrested for their roles in the scam.
Shravan Goyal’s Bail Plea
Seeking interim bail, Shravan Kumar Goyal has cited deteriorating health conditions and the necessity for medical attention. His petition was heard by Justice B.D. Guru’s single bench on Tuesday. The High Court has now directed the CBI to file its response within two weeks before proceeding further with the case.
The outcome of the bail plea remains uncertain as the investigation continues, with significant legal and political implications surrounding the case. The next hearing is expected to provide further clarity on the legal proceedings against Goyal and other accused individuals.
