NEW DELHI (India CSR): As India celebrates Children’s Day – a moment to honour childhood and spotlight the nation’s young potential – this year’s theme, “Investing in the Future,” underscores the critical role of early learning in shaping tomorrow’s citizens. On the occasion of Children’s Day, Cosmo Foundation — the philanthropic arm of Cosmo First Limited, reiterated its long-standing commitment to empowering rural children through strong foundational learning. With over fifteen years of sustained efforts in strengthening literacy and numeracy skills, the Foundation continues to shape brighter futures for thousands of young learners across rural Gujarat and Maharashtra.
Since its inception in 2009, the Foundation has been at the forefront of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) – a priority now echoed in the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). The Foundational Literacy & Numeracy Centres, fondly known as Cosmo Gyan Vihar Kendra, focus on activity-based learning that combines play, storytelling, art, and group exercises to make education joyful, interactive, and effective. The approach aligns closely with national educational goals while fostering creativity, curiosity, and confidence among young learners.
At the heart of this model are the Balmitras – trained women educators from within the community who serve as mentors and change agents. They bridge the gap between school and home, improve attendance, and address holistic development – from academic progress to emotional well-being and hygiene awareness.
Yamini Kumar Jaipuria, Managing Trustee, Cosmo Foundation & Whole-time Director, Cosmo First, shared, “Cosmo Foundation’s unwavering, long-term commitment to the children of rural Gujarat and Maharashtra serves as the eternal flame that lights up a nation’s future. While building an education foundation requires sustained effort, it results in the strongest, most resilient impact. We are strategically investing in the educated skilled human capital of our nation, ensuring every child received opportunity for quality learning with dignity. This deep-rooted, transformative investment is our solemn pledge to every child.”
Over the years, more than 24,000 children have benefited from the Foundation’s programmes. Students have shown measurable improvement in reading fluency, comprehension, numeracy, and soft skills. Teachers and principals report that classrooms have become more engaging and inclusive, ensuring that no child is left behind.
Girishbhai Prajapati, Principal, Primary School, Choranda (Vadodara), shared, “Our students eagerly await Cosmo Foundation’s sessions. Learning has become enjoyable and meaningful. The presence of Balmitras and activity-based methods has created stronger engagement and improved learning outcomes. We can clearly see the positive shift in our classrooms.”
In addition to academic learning, Cosmo Foundation conducts value-building sessions and awareness activities that nurture empathy, discipline, and gratitude – shaping both competence and character. Inclusivity remains central, with focused support for children from diverse social and economic backgrounds, including migrant and single-parent families.
As India advances towards the vision of Viksit Bharat, Cosmo Foundation believes that investing in a child’s foundation is investing in the nation’s future and progress. On this Children’s Day, Cosmo Foundation celebrates every child’s potential and renews its pledge to continue building strong foundations for stronger futures.
