Brigade Foundation starts Massive Tree Planting Drive to Create Urban Forest Sanctuary in Bengaluru
BENGALURU (India CSR) — In a landmark initiative aimed at restoring Bengaluru’s green identity, the Brigade Foundation has launched a large-scale tree planting campaign titled “From Saplings to a Sanctuary: Planting 100,000 Trees for a Greener Tomorrow.” The initiative, aligned with Brigade Group’s Urban Forest philosophy, seeks to transform parts of North Bengaluru into thriving ecological reserves through a plantation of over one lakh trees.
The drive was inaugurated by M. B. Patil, Hon. Minister for Large and Medium Industries & Infrastructure Development, Government of Karnataka, in the presence of M. R. Jaishankar, Lifetime Trustee of Brigade Foundation and Chairman, Brigade Group. The Foundation has collaborated with Bengaluru-based ecological restoration firm Vanantara, which will nurture the saplings until they mature into resilient trees.
Speaking at the event, M. B. Patil lauded the initiative, calling it a model for responsible development. “Bengaluru has always been known as the Garden City. Due to rapid urbanisation and industrialisation, that charm has diminished. Brigade Foundation has shown how development and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. We planted around 15 million saplings in Vijayapura since 2016, and efforts like this ensure that our legacy of greenery continues,” he said.
K. H. Muniyappa, Hon. Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Government of Karnataka, also praised the Foundation’s commitment. “The Brigade Group has undertaken a commendable step towards a sustainable future. For true ecological balance, private enterprises must work alongside the government, and this initiative exemplifies that partnership,” he said.

Elaborating on the Foundation’s philosophy, M. R. Jaishankar said, “Brigade Foundation’s focus has been on education, health, and community development, but we also believe that progress must coexist with responsibility. Every sapling planted is an act of faith for the future. We have already planted one lakh trees across Bengaluru and Mysuru and are proud to contribute to a greener, more resilient city.”
Varun Ravindra, Founder and Chief Conservator at Vanantara, highlighted the long-term impact of the project. “Enhancing ecosystems at scale requires both vision and patience. These saplings will grow into a lush, biodiverse forest that improves air and water quality while reconnecting communities with nature,” he said.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including P. M. Narendraswamy, Chairman, KSPCB; V. Shanthakumar, Chairman, BIAAPA; Anjum Parvez, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Forest Ecology & Environment Department, GoK; and Dr. Shivayogi Kalasad, CEO, Brigade Foundation, among others.
