An inspection revealed unauthorized use of BIS numbers and mislabeling on packaged drinking water.
RAIPUR (Chhattisgarh): The Additional District Magistrate and Adjudicating Officer, C.L. Markandeya, has directed the proprietor of Samaras Industries, Bhavdeep Singh, located in village Kopedehi, to submit a reply by August 12, 2025, regarding the charges of operating a food business without a valid license or registration. Failure to respond will result in ex parte proceedings.
Food Safety Officer Domendra Dhruv had inspected the facility and found 64 packets (16 litres) of “Popo Aqua” drinking water being sold without proper labeling, including missing batch numbers and manufacturing dates. The BIS number printed on the packets was found to be unauthorized and registered under a different entity in Odisha.
The product was declared substandard, and the operator was found in violation of the Food Safety and Standards Act, making the business activities punishable under law.
