At Dell Technologies, we have always crafted experiences that enables the access of technology to be placed in the hands of under-represented and under-served in order to ensure that the playing field slowly but steadily starts becoming equal. India is taking tall strides in bringing more women in its workforce. In order to ensure that the future workforce plays an instrumental part in bridging the gender divide, we felt that it was imperative for the playing field to start becoming equal, hence, a lot of what we do is focused on working with girl children and women, in order to empower them to become leaders and change makers. As our country continues to change and evolve, so should our workforce, by keeping up with the times and actively creating spaces that nurture, foster and empower women to truly realize their potential.

We have worked with more than 75,000+ girls and women across India, in various capacities in order to ensure that they get all the skills that they need in order to navigate this complex world that’s moving slowly and steadily towards equality. The work also includes a variety of initiatives that impact the girl children in India, ranging from capacity building, counselling to providing them with the required financial support. We believe that the physical and the mental health of the girl children is extremely detrimental when it comes to ensuring that they have a life full of promise.

The employees of Dell Technologies routinely work with girl children to educatethem on aspects pertaining to healthy living, cleanliness & hygiene (oral, personal and menstrual hygiene), managing emotions, stress management, peer pressure, conflict management and simple meditation. The volunteers have also engaged in creating awareness about menstrual hygiene and its management, along with numerous sessions on healthy diet and good nutritional habits.

The mental health of girl children definitely goes a long way in ensuring that they grow up to be self-aware individuals who enrich the society and the volunteers worked strenuously to ensure that the girls have the exposure to understand themselves better. Various counselling sessions have been facilitated so as to enable the girls to deal with difficult emotions while also equipping them with ways to manage stress through holistic self-care methods. The girls have also been exposed to various ways of releasing stress so as to ensure that they maintain emotional equilibrium.

The volunteers have engaged with the girls to work with intensive skill-building by creating awareness of relevant interpersonal and intrapersonal skills in today’s day and age, including but not limited to communication, public speaking, presentation and creativity. Additionally, relevant topics like personal grooming and etiquette, self-image and esteem, career, decision making, anger management, social skills, problem solving and decision making and critical and creative thinking have been broached in order to holistically enable the girl children to blossom into promising young leaders.

The girls have also gotten a chance to take part in various sessions that has empowered them to learn technical skills like tinkering, soldering and coding, thus giving them a great glimpse into the male-dominated space of STEM sciences in the country. Due to these impactful sessions, the girls have gotten a chance to interact with industry experts and world leaders on powerful domains like entrepreneurship and technology.

Moreover, Dell Technologies feels honoured to work with impactful partners, including apex Government bodies like Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, Government of India in order to ensure that our efforts and initiatives translate into maximum impact on ground.

Taking this collaboration ahead, we launched an all-girl initiative i.e., the SheCodes Innovation Program, a country wide challenge that cuts across all lingual, geographical and cultural divide, thereby championing the thought of girl-led innovation. We have worked strenuously to ensure that the girl students and the youth in our country have a chance to deeply engage with the learning process while having fun! The world as we know it, continues to go through massive shifts every day and it is very important that the girls of our country are exposed to relevant skills so that they can build a great future, both for themselves and the country.

SheCodes Program is an initiative directed towards empowering more girls to be future innovators of our country that is meant to bring sense of inclusion and empowerment to the participants and start a chain reaction that will inspire more girls to follow this journey. SheCodes Internship was launched as a part of the same initiative, striving to bring hands-on experience to the girls, in order for them to be able to visualize what it means to be an entrepreneur! The internship also harnessed the potential of these young minds, with each of them bringing their own perspectives, ideas and visions into the experience, thus, making it more colourful than ever!

This has not only given them the chance to work with modern technology and equipment, but it has done so much more for the girls- mainly empowering them enough to want to innovate in a male-dominated STEM space. Their thirst to prove themselves has certainly inspired us to create more opportunities that would enable the girls to show how far they have transformed after having harnessed the opportunities available. We are truly privileged to have had the chance to work with such remarkable young minds who hold immense promise that will prove instrumental in transforming the country, one idea at a time!
