NEW DELHI (India CSR): Calderys, a leading global provider for industries operating in high-temperature conditions, reaffirms its commitment to contributing to a sustainable future by integrating eco-conscious practices into its flagship project: Calderys Plant in East & South India. Known as CAPES, the Odisha-based facility is a major single-site greenfield plant dedicated to refractories and steel casting fluxes for the growing Indian market. Designed as a next-generation manufacturing hub, the plant is steadily incorporating eco-conscious industrial practices in its development.
Sustainability Strategy Begins
Sustainability at CAPES goes beyond compliance. The project has adopted a comprehensive approach to reduce its environmental footprint, starting with energy, water, and emissions. As an example, the plant plans to source 20% of its energy from solar power within the next five years, reinforcing its focus on renewable energy integration.
Zero Discharge Design
The facility is also engineered for zero effluent discharge. No wastewater is released outside the factory premises, thanks to advanced on-site water recycling through effluent treatment and sewage treatment installations. The treated water is reused in landscaping and auxiliary operations. In addition, Calderys has planned to install 95 groundwater recharge pits to support aquifer sustainability further.
Greener Site Development
Additionally, a green belt initiative is underway, with a plan to develop 33% green cover on the premises. Of the 2,000 trees planned, 800 have already been planted, reinforcing Calderys’ commitment to biodiversity and carbon offsetting. These efforts will contribute to a healthier microclimate within the industrial area.
Air Quality Focus
Air quality is another major focus of CAPES. With a robust dust and emission control system in place, the plant aims to maintain air that is five times cleaner than conventional refractory facilities. This is achieved through high-efficiency filtration technologies, significantly reducing particulate emissions.
Circular Economy Practices
Finally, CAPES has embraced the principles of a circular economy by incorporating scrap and recycled materials into its production cycles. This strategy minimizes waste and maximizes resource efficiency, contributing to the broader goal of responsible manufacturing.
Leadership Vision Shared
Expressing his thoughts, Mr. Ish Mohan Garg, Senior Vice President of the Asia Pacific region of the Group, said, “At Calderys, sustainability is not a standalone initiative—it’s embedded into every aspect of our operations. The CAPES plant in Odisha reflects our vision of future-ready manufacturing, where innovation and responsibility go hand-in-hand. Our environmental measures are a commitment not just to the planet, but also to the communities and generations we serve, and they support India’s national decarbonization goals”.
Future Sustainability Standards
With these initiatives, CAPES is setting a new standard for environmentally responsible industrial growth, aligning with both national sustainability goals and the global ethos of building a better tomorrow.
