KORBA/Balconagar (Chhattisgarh): Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd. (BALCO), a Vedanta Group company has a target of 60,000 tree plantation throughout the Korba District and other locations in Chhattisgarh state for the year 2016-17, Balco said today.
“Balco organised various programmes on the occasion of Earth Day-2016. Saplings have been planted inside the plant premises and in the Township. Nearly 700 saplings have been planted. About 250 students from various schools and a large number of residents of Balconagar took part in the plantation programme. A target of 60,000 saplings has been planned for the year 2016-17.”, Balco said.
Hitanand Agarwal, Corporator was present in the plantation programme held in the Township and R.P.Shinde, Regional Officer, Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board was present in the plantation programme held in the Plant premises. A quiz was also organised for the students and the residents. The winners were awarded LED bulbs. In the Bake Oven area inside the Plant premises, the saplings were planted by officers and workers whose birthdays fell in the month of March.
The programme had the presence of B. Siva Kumar, Head- Industrial Health, Safety and Environment, Ajay Sharma, AGM-Environment, R.Vijay, Head-Carbon, Umesh Prasad, Head-Bake Oven, P.S. Hari, AGM-Environment, Mrs. Sadhna Varma, Sustainability Officer, Priyaranjan Trivedi, Junior Executive –Environment, Vijay Singh Thakur, Process Technician and S.K.Singh, Senior Assistant.
On the occasion of Earth Day, Balco will organise a painting competition on the 24 April in Dr. Ambedkar Stadium, Balconagar. For students of Nursery to Class 2, the topic will be ‘Our Environment’. For students from Class 3 to Class 12 the topics will be ‘Trees for Planet Earth: Come lets plant trees’ and ‘Struggle against the illicit trade of wild animals’ and ‘Environment Stewardship: Responsible Citizenship’
Balco has appealed to the students of all schools in Balconagar area to take part in the painting competition in large numbers and there by show their allegiance to the awareness campaign towards environment conservation and enhancement.
